Definitely a noteworthy experience, especially with kids. My daughter enjoyed it a lot! There are several performers that exhibit themselves through the dinner. There are no forks, and they won’t change your spoons after the soup. It’s the dark ages baby , and you don’t see a thing at the candle that is provided to you - just go by smell and eat! 🤣
I must say that contrary to what others expressed, the food was excellent. It clearly was in tone with the genre and the idea of feast that many east Europeans have of food experience - but the meat was actually extremely well cooked and prepared. I was expecting to be overwhelmed with quantity, but was actually positively surprised by the quality. This lead us to eat even more, unfortunately - to the point of a disaster! But to testify that the quality was excellent, we suffered no major consequences from the excessive food. Either we were lucky, but whoever said that the food is not “tasty” probably lacks a proper palate or food education.
Regardless, the critiques I can made are the following: It is pricey. I do not suggest it is not worth it, but it reaches almost the level of a superior restaurant while in fact serving bare roasted meat. (Again, it was excellent, but it’s not Gordon Ramsay-level meat). It is almost impossible to really understand what you are ordering as the plates have theme-inspired names which disguise the content (even down to the single components of the feasts). Adding to that, the environment is pretty dark and you are mostly left to candlelight to read the menu. While you could theoretically order a single plate, it is very hard and you are pressured for time due to the booking. You will almost certainly end up ordering some kind of “feast” plate with mixed grilled meat. The place would enjoy a larger location where the performers could have more room and there could be more attrition between the guests’ chairs.
In conclusion, this is not the place to bring your vegetarian or spoiled/picky friend who want to know if a certain spice is present somewhere. This is for the down-to-heart, joys-of-life seeking family and friends gathering that have a conspicuous budget and want to let go and have...
Read moreWe visited Sir Lancelot Lovagi Étterem in Budapest on several occasions over the years. The first time was in 2005 for lunch with a group of friends. It was a memorable evening, marked by a lively atmosphere and a very distinctive medieval setting. Years later, in 2018, we returned for lunch, this time as a couple. The experience remained consistent, and it was reassuring to see that the restaurant had maintained its identity over time. It is still in business today, which says something about its ability to stay relevant while offering something quite specific.
One of the most notable aspects of dining at Sir Lancelot is the opportunity to eat with your hands. This may not appeal to everyone, but it adds to the immersive nature of the experience. Everything is carefully themed: the furniture, the tableware, the metal trays, the cups, and the attire of the serving staff all reflect a medieval style. The music and lighting further support the atmosphere, making the setting feel cohesive and intentional rather than gimmicky.
The food matches the theme—hearty, rustic dishes, served in generous portions, and designed to be shared. It may not be refined cuisine, but it suits the environment. Service was attentive and efficient on both visits. The staff managed large crowds well and stayed in character without being overbearing. The restaurant is popular with tourists, but locals also seem to appreciate it, especially for group celebrations.
It’s not a place we would visit frequently, but for a unique meal in Budapest that leans into theatrics while still delivering quality and consistency, Sir Lancelot remains a solid choice. We’re glad to see it...
Read moreI really liked this restaurant, this was my second time of coming, it was fantastic except service. Foods were great, the performance was so exciting for every guest, but the waitress was kind of discourteous in the end. I noted that the restaurant has birthday surprises for the birthday person and 5000ft Voucher for after party if the 4 people come along .I thought maybe it’s a gift from restaurant , then I took my id and asked the waitress, she said that if we wanted to get surprise and voucher only if we ordered 4 meats instead of our 3 persons plates, i thought that’s fine, then we were enjoying our meals. After that I saw one waitress who took one cake with candles , I asked if we could get one, no one told me it was charged, that’s fine, but for so long no one came , so I didn’t know if they came or not, I was planning to leave, and ask another guy who with interphone, he said if we need that surprise we have to pay for that, I said that’s ok then I don’t need that. When I was leaving, the waitress told me she had already prepared, I should wait for that , i said sorry I have to go, I don’t know it has to be paid, and she said something in Hungarian which I couldn’t understand properly but I know it’s something Nem Jó. I would like to say if the restaurant have some service then it has to be written clearly, and make sure the waitress has be...
