A Magical Evening at Tom George Osteria – Budapest’s Hidden Culinary Gem
I didn’t plan to fall in love with a restaurant that evening, but Tom George Osteria completely stole the show.
Picture this: a warm Budapest evening, 32°C in the air, and I’m sitting comfortably outside on the terrace. The restaurant had thoughtfully installed mist machines to keep the guests cool, a small detail that made a huge difference. The moment I sat down, I already felt taken care of.
And then the food arrived.
I ordered the salmon with oven baked potatoes, and to say it was delicious would be an understatement. The salmon was cooked to perfection, not overdone, not underdone. As I touched it with my fork, the fillet glided apart effortlessly. The skin had a beautiful, delicate crisp, the kind that tells you someone in the kitchen really knows what they’re doing. The potatoes were golden, warm, and full of flavor. Comforting, yet refined.
As the sky darkened, the atmosphere turned magical. In front of me stood the breathtaking silhouette of a basilica lit up in the night. It felt surreal, like dining inside a postcard.
And then came the dessert.
It looked like it belonged in a high end Parisian patisserie. Beautifully plated, freshly made, and tasting like something sent down from heaven. Light, flavorful, and simply phenomenal. A perfect end to an unforgettable meal.
But what truly elevated the evening was the service. The staff were incredibly attentive. They noticed when my ice melted and came over without even being asked, just to ensure my drink stayed refreshing. Warm smiles, genuine care, and a professional touch throughout the entire evening.
Tom George Osteria isn’t just a restaurant. It’s an experience. A rare mix of flavor, ambiance, and hospitality that stays with you long after you’ve left.
Five stars...
Read moreI am giving 4 stars because of what I have experienced here earlier, but to be honest, my last visit was a disappointment. Tom George osteria used to be "the place" I had in mind, when it was time for a special evening in Budapest. Came here in the last few years many times. With my husband for a romantic evening or with our kids for a cozy family time. The service was polite and professional, the food tasty and impressive. The wine was aerated in a decanter, and the atmosphere was full of good vibes. We visited last time a week ago, and we could hardly recognize the place. When entering the restaurant, no one has welcomed us, and we had to wait a long time before someone would show us our table. Our bottle of amarone wasn't aerated, the pasta carbonara was undercooked, the veal schnitzel was paper dry, ribeye also dry. Lamb was still good, but the potatoes were forgotten, we had to remind the waiters twice. We decided to take the dessert somewhere else. It is really sad, I really liked this place, but it is too pricey for not being...
