My cousin recommended this restaurant, saying it has the best traditional Hungarian food in Budapest. I was slightly disappointed since it didn’t live up to the expectations I had. I was travelling with my friend at the time, who hasn’t tried many traditional Hungarian dishes. We ordered the “csirkepaprikás” for her and I felt quite embarrassed when it was placed in front of her since there was barely any sauce (as you can see on the dish on the top left). Traditional, it’s supposed to have a bright red and creamy paprikás sauce. It made it worse that I could tell my friend didn’t enjoy the food. I ordered the “hortobágyi” which is one of my favourites but I was expecting it to be made with ground beef like it’s supposed to, perhaps I read the menu wrong when ordering but I guess when it comes to “traditional Hungarian food” I was a little disappointed. Otherwise, our waiter was very friendly and we did have a good time.

The restaurant is average size, it also has an outside space but seems like the owner tries to make the most out of the space. The tables and seating chairs are rather compact, they are super close to each other, almost gives you a feeling as if each table was creating one long table, and you are sitting next to a random person. The most awkward thing is when you try leaving your space and the whole row of other customers need to move just so you can get out. The service was efficient, but as quick as the food was arriving, from starter to main to dessert! The soup arrived within 2 minutes of order, and it was lukewarm, not hot. Not impressed. The main arrived 2 seconds after your soup bowl was taken again, and the temperature was a tiny bit warmer than your soup's. The only good experience was that the food was actually tasty. The dessert was already on our table before we even finished the main. The chocolate sponge cake felt and tested like a wet sponge that needed a good wash. The same cake you can buy from Tesco's and it will be the tastiest dessert in the universe! So unsure what went wrong here. The whole experience was that the waiters obviously tried to rush the customers to eat quickly so they could accommodate more customers after you. If you want a nice sit in and have a chat, this restaurant is not for you. This restaurant is more like a quick kitchen, if you don't fancy fast food, but you're in rush. You have an extensive menu and it's cheap In comparison to normal Budapest prices. Also note, that you might need to repeat your order twice or 3 times to ensure that they understood you well. The waiter didn't seem to listen and got our order mixed up, and we had to stop him twice from bringing the wrong drink and dish. Pros: tasty food / cheap/ location Cons: compact/ rush/ communication issues/ food not hot enough

Would like to share our experience. Me and my friends went to Drum cafe about a month ago (I just remembered to put a review now) ofc we are tourist and was very excited to try traditional Hungarian food so we thought to go here. The place is okay we have a table for 3. I ordered menu with starter-main-dessert. For starter I decided to go with goulash and my friend ordered only goulash (not the menu). The food was served in few minutes although the 2 goulash looks different. The waiter just put the food on the table so we asked him which one is for the menu and surprisingly he told us “girls, didn’t you read the menu?” i mean okay maybe it’s our fault but we kinda thought it would be the same since it’s goulash, we didn’t know it has different kinds 😅 but we didn’t mind it. The food is good not gonna lie with that. Tho my rice was salty for me. When we called the waiter and asked for the bill we asked him if we could pay separately since that’s what we usually do in our travels and surprisingly he told us “omg why didn’t you tell me in the beginning, don’t give me headache I work since 8 until now (it was like 21hr) if u just told me earlier I can tell the cashier about it” We didn’t expect his reaction and we ended up to pay as a whole. I mean he could have just told us that was not possible we can ofc understand. We we’re just bit disappointed with the service. That’s all. Well if it’s true that he was working over time I guess the management should check for this and make sure the servers will have good energy towards the customers 🙂

Me and my partner ordered 2 set of meals which came with soup, main dish, and a dessert. Each set is 4990 ft. I had beef goulash soup, beef with rice, and vanilla ice cream. - Beef goulash soup The soup came with small version of the tradition pot which was very cute, it taste a bit salty after a while, so we ordered some bread to finish the soup. I tried my partner's goulash soup with bean, I prefer the one with bean as it had strong smoky flavor. - Beef with rice The portion was a bit small than what we expected. Meat was a bit dry, rice was perfectly cooked to me, but that's all, it's a pretty simple taste rice dish.. The only dish I enjoyed was the bean goulash soup from my partner. Overall the foods on the menu seemed pretty traditional and authentic, but I wouldn't recommend to visit this place when on popular days or hours. We were arranged to sit at a corner next to the window which was very narrow, and the whole restaurant was very very crowded, we couldn't really enjoy our foods. Paying bill was confusing. We saw all the tables were able to pay at the table, but we were told by the staff that we need to pay at the till. We asked 2 staff in a row, but they said something in Hungarian then walked away, until we asked the 3rd staff, we finally got to pay and leave. I understand when the restaurant get busy, many things happen at same time can be chaos, but I think the owner need to pay more attention to the service, and the space arrangement for the tables.

We came out for authentic Hungarian food and were left quite disappointed to say the least! The venue was very busy on arrival, we walked passed three servers who saw us looking lost and ignored us before we were actually attended to. About from this the service was okay, food arrived in a timely manner and portions were okay for what we ordered. What let's this establishment down is the food! Where do I start the Goulash was watered down and quite oily, meat portion was okay but there was definitely more carrots and filler pieces. Other than that it was okay. The Langosh was dry and stale - looked nothing like the picture or as described. When we raised this with a server his response was ‘its not meant to look like the picture’ yikes! Well don't tell me you're serving melted cheese but just dump the cheese on top! Literally had to beg for them to pop it on the grill a little more and even then it was still not satisfactory, it tasted stale and hard. I couldn't taste the garlic either.. So yeah just avoid the Langosh.. I almost didn't want to pay, but for the price of the dish it was not worth the hassle. As I said earlier just avoid the Langosh.. To be completely honest the Ginger beer was the best thing we ordered. We left hungry and popped into KFC 🙃
