Wonderful atmosphere, very peaceful and relaxed vibes, beautiful restaurant! Good lighting for evening dining, lots of plants and creative landscaping/architecture within a relatively small space. There are outdoor patio style tables, as well as covered tables for outdoor dining with or without a roof.
They make lovely and authentic traditional Mayan food, I could tell the ingredients were high quality and fresh! I got the salad, and it was a good medium portion of fresh leafy greens and tomatoes and sole other veggies.
I also got a quesadilla with a Banana tortilla and beans, and it was quite good! The quality of the ingredients was notably good and very creative traditional combinations of Mayan food that was new to me! The portions were small for the quesadilla, especially for the price, it was quite expensive for such a small quesadilla, so if you're hungry, you'll probably want more than one dish. I was traveling on a budget so unfortunately I could not get enough to actually fill up here. Very high quality food, but it seems like you'll need to order a lot and expect to pay more if you want to have a full meal.
Very good service and friendly staff!
Overall a great dining experience!
I would recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting a a somewhat more fancy but still very authentic dining experience with high...
Read moreBest dining experience we’ve had in Mexico!
We have been in Mexico for a couple of weeks now and have eaten at restaurants in Cancun, Valladolid and Mérida. We didn’t initially intend to come to Tierra Ixim but stumbled upon it by chance. When we were looking at the menu outside, a couple leaving the restaurant recommended that we go in, saying that they fully enjoyed it.
Upon entering, we were greeted by a warm and kind woman who told us about the ethos of the restaurant, that they work directly with small community partners and farmers around Mexico to produce in season, authentic and delicious Mayan cuisine.
I had been hoping to try flavour combinations and ingredients that I hadn’t encountered before, and that were different to other Mexican restaurants we had been to, Ixim did exactly that. Our favourites were the lime soup, banana (plantain) quesadilla, the mushroom taco and the enmoladas. We also tried the fermented pineapple drink, which is made in-house, and which was different to anything that I had had before. Thy also let us try the homemade kombucha as we were curious about it.
The staff was all very attentive and helpful, the setting was beautiful, calming and romantic, without being pretentious or inauthentic. I definitely plan to visit next time...
Read moreDid not have a good experience, although the food was good. It was maybe a bad day but hey had a lot of issues. We had a reservation for 8:30 but mixed it a bit, no biggie and got seated by 8:50. But after 3 times asking for water, it finally got there by the end of our meal. The drinks were good and the enmoladas and tacos sudados very original and tasty, those came fast. But after, we ordered the tlayuda and after 50 minutes we decided to leave. The waitress came after with the dish and told us that she warned us that food took some time (the first dishes we got around 15 minutes and everyone else got food too). Shame since their concept is different and interesting with tasty moles (mostly vegan and vegetarian options) and original cocktails. It seems to be ran by women and everyone in the staff I could see was a woman, which I appreciate. If any they should extend their drink list and mezcal options, it seemed short to me. It is not expensive as some comments suggest, not cheap either but they do have live music and an original setting. Maybe go and try it out, some other people left as well but after reading the good comments I think they just had a bad day in the kitchen...
