For my yelpers staying at the Hyatt Ziva all inclusive resort, let me break down Dozo for you.
Dozo service: Hit or miss completely. My first visit was a party of two, and we lost our server after we got our main dishes. We had to track them down to order dessert. My next visit is two nights later with multiple families for a party of 14 and the service was fantastic. The lead server and his assistants were around throughout the evening.
Dozo cuisine: I'm from Vegas and I know I'm very spoiled with the fantastic sushi houses we have so I kept my expectations as realistic as possible. The sashimi was actually fresher/better than I expected which was a pleasant surprise. The sushi was about where I thought it would be, the quality you'd find at the a supermarket right after it's made: Not bad, but not restaurant quality. The Cheese and Banana skewers were tasty but tiny in portion. The Duck yakisoba came out a little light in volume but was decent. The Beef Teriyaki was the all star when it came to non-sushi dishes
Dozo ambiance: There's a Japanese Benihana vibe that's going to be very noisy because of the teppanyaki grills and it's always crowded. They can accommodate big families of 6+ which makes Dozo popular. The spacing of the tables is perfect and the Japanese decor makes for a pleasant dining experience.
If you keep your expectations realistic, Dozo can work for you. If stick to the sashimi, miso soup and the beef teriyaki, you'll be just fine. High end Japanese foodies will probably be disappointed. These are the cards you're dealt at Dozo, play them as you see...
Read moreThis is definitely the best sushi place in Mexico for its price. The sushi is really good the customer service is great everyone is nice I’ve never heard a curse word in there and your allowed to sit in the bar as a minor but not alcohol. Everyone there is ok with people having a hat on and I got a compliment from one of the employees about my hat. Every time you give eye contact they immediately come to you and ask if everything is ok and asks if you want more. Lastly the mood there is great for example when it was someone’s birthday they always sing happy birthday and lastly when you sit at the hot table they always make a fire that is safe, cool, and common for the restaurant changing the mood and making...
Read moreThis is part of the Hyatt Ziva. 4.5 It is usually very busy, sometimes a line up. There are two sides to the restaurant - sushi and then teppanyaki. Teppanyaki requires a reservation. Put your room number down and grab a drink at the bar. We had teppanyaki - the chef was amazing! Very skilled! The experience was very entertaining. You get edamame, soup or sunomono salad, fried rice, then your two meat dishes (choice of chicken, beef, shrimp, calamari/squid and salmon). The beef was delicious. Comes with veggies. Then dessert is offered. The food is quite rich as every dish is prepared with butter but definitely tasty! Make sure you have your camera ready for...
