We finally had a chance to try Santo Pulpo. The food was all between very good to spectacular. The sashimi, raviolis, excellent. The grilled octopus, to die for, likely the best I have had anywhere. We ended up ordering another one and shared. The beef hamburgers were excellent and shrimp cocktail very good. Deserts were also very good, especially the stuffed figs. The cocktails were also tasty, were quick, and especially enjoyed the Passion Fruit Mezcalita. We loved Santo Pulpo, except for our waitress, Ramona. When we arrived, we were a table of 11, they quickly put tables together and accommodated. Issues started after we ordered our appetizers, which I ordered the fresh oysters, my wife the sashimi. We ordered entrees. When my wife’s sashimi arrived so did my main entree. I requested to cancel the oysters I ordered for my Appetizer and our waitress got mad. I explained that the appetizers should come before the meal and that I would not eat them together or after my entree was served. She continued to argue then finally said she would take care of it and I said thank you. Once my wife had finished the wonderful sashimi the waitress, with attitude asked if she would now be ready for her entree (they way it should be) but said in a way to attempt to rile me up for some reason. During the rest of the meal Ramona would make snide comments which we ignored. When our bill arrived the oysters had been included which I of course mentioned and again another argument. She did remove and we paid and upon leaving asked if I could speak with the man’s age but apparently he was not there. Other than the bad experience with Ramona the food was amazing and would certainly my return again, but would request a...
Read moreFirst off I’d like to start on a positive note and say how beautiful the restaurant was and how Amazing everyone’s meals were. It’s a real shame because of a group of 10 all of us were super disappointed in the service. The restaurant at the time only had two other tables occupied. It took about an hour before anybody at our table was asked what type of beverages we would like water, alcohol, etc. then another 30 to 45 minutes later, someone comes by and takes our order. Then to top it off at the end we pay the bill on half credit card and half US dollars leaving the tip in US dollars as well. After we all got up to leave, we are all already out of the restaurant into the street., crossing over to the resort we were staying at 3 of the employees come running out with the check claiming that we owe them money and something went wrong. The fact that that was even addressed in that way was absurd after how our service was to begin with. Then the waiter proceeded to say where’s my tip? We left him US$30, which was generous enough if you convert into pesos, and for the way we were treated. There was a scene made in the street and unfortunately, we had to walk away as that was so inappropriate and admitting they made a mistake with the conversion which is not...
Read moreReview for Santo Pulpo
I had high hopes for Santo Pulpo, but unfortunately, the experience was a letdown. The food, especially the brisket, was far from what was advertised. We were expecting the rich, tender flavors of a 12-hour slow-cooked brisket, but instead, we were served an overcooked, dry, and tough piece of meat that didn’t justify its steep price. The tacos were also disappointing, arriving cold with stale tortillas that felt far from fresh.
Oddly enough, for a place named Santo Pulpo (which means octopus in English), there wasn’t any octopus on the menu. It just seemed strange for a restaurant to not serve what its name suggests.
That being said, the mezcaligas were fantastic, and the service was top-notch, which helped save the night. But overall, there are way better places to dine in town. If you’re in it for great service and drinks, Santo Pulpo delivers. For the food,...
