This is my second time at Pueblo Bonito. The first time we visited (2021), we went to Tazuna 3 times because it was so phenomenal. This yeah was sadly a little "meh".
Tazuna gets major points for atmosphere. If you go at night especially, it's a very romantic setting. The food in 2021 was hands down the best sushi I've ever eaten, and the staff made plenty of recommendations that were all spot-on. The food I got this time around wasn't bad necessarily, it just didn't hit the spot like it did last time. Most of the sushi is very sauce-heavy--plates COMPLETELY drenched in sauce, which was definitely not bad, just not the kind of sushi I'm used to. Also, don't expect "typical" sushi. Their menu is quite different from American sushi restaurants, but definitely worth trying.
While the food was okay, the service was definitely lacking. The first time the service was Olay at best, but the waiter only came to our table 3 times--for drink orders, food orders and to pay the bill. He didn't check on us at any other time. The second visit, however, was much worse. We had a party of 8, and they salt us as far away from the bar/kitchen as possible. The waiter was practically non-existant, and where we seated, we were too far away to even be able to flag a waiter. Not only were we completely ignored, but there were 3 or 4 entrees and drinks that just didn't show up at all. Since we went the all inclusive route, it was technically "free", so I wasn't too concerned, but if I had been paying out of pocket, I would have been extremely disappointed.
If you're into sushi and are at Sunset Beach, definitely stop in and check them out, but come during slower days/times and come with smaller groups if you want...
Read moreThis was a mediocre dinner. It was difficult because as the night went on, the restaurant continued to get more and more crowded. All we could see was a small kitchen serving over 60 tables. Service was terribly slow and we received minimal attention from our server. For food – the steamed edamame were as expected. The miso soup is not traditional miso soup as what you would expect in the US and is a significantly larger portion. The gyozas were nice and crispy with a great dipping sauce (recommend). The black sashimi was supposed to be raw fish and it was NOT raw fish (see photo - I would not recommend). Sushi rolls weren’t too rice based, however nothing was great. What WAS great was the Lobster Roll - sweet, spicy, savory, crunchy. It all came together and was FANTASTIC. Don’t know if I’ll be back, but if so it’d be...
Read moreJapanese restaurant that doesn’t serve authentic food? No green tea! Gyozas were 3 little pieces costing 250p that looked like wet limp wontons. Not fried. Raw Tuna on tostada was tough meaning not good quality fish. Teppanyaki was more veg then meat drowned in soya sauce stir fried with tons of carrots and celery rather than meat. I guess if you eat all inclusive then food could be ok to fill you up, however, paying ala carte was definitely not worth it for 450p or US$27. Given choice avoid this if you want real Japanese dishes. I’ve been traveling over 45 years and worst “Japanese” dishes even given benefit of doubt no Japanese pp are chefs in the kitchen. 2 star service was 2 cups of hot water(minus green tea) didn’t arrive till...
