Good fresh pork barbeque, tasty Michoacan style; mildly spiced and only slightly salted. (There are a variety of red and green salsas provided.) The pork is ample and served on a large group platter; well cooked, boneless -- except for ribs which are "fall off the bone" tender -- mostly lean, except for the small chunks of chicharon (skin), which are flavorful, but not as crackly as most Gringos prefer. A variety of sides are provided, including corn chips and fresh handmade tortillas, peppers and chopped vegetables, as well as refritos (refried beans). They have the usual variety of chilled canned/bottled beverages, including beers and soft drinks, and are not surprised or offended when you request straws or glasses without ice.
Carnitas Quiroga is well known to the taxies and is easily seen on the north side of the broad street, about 200 yards east of the landmark Hotel Lucerna traffic circle. (A good place to get a taxi, BTW.) If driving, Quiroga has its own secure parking lot which seemed ample during our late afternoon visit.
We appreciated the updated traditional decor, the overall cleanliness, and the bright, fresh, open-air atmosphere -- it is not a smoky den. The service was competent, understanding -- even of my limited Spanglish -- cheery, and attentive. Worth the visit for those with a hankering...
Read moreWhen I first travelled to Mexico I fell in love with carnitas, it was smoky, juicy, tender and flavourful. There was a place in TJ served very decent carnitas but it is now closed. So I asked my friend to recommend another place that also does good carnitas. He took me to Carnitas Quiroga, and that was nice. I really like the tiny plate of carnitas served with thr tortilla chips, that tastes just like what I fell in love with. But the main wasn't as good, it was still very nice but just not as juicy and flavourful as the side. I really enjoy making myself tacos with carnitas, guacamole, hot sauce, lime juice and queso fundido. It was so good that I was just stuffing my face with it and lost count on...
Read moreHorrible service. My dad wanted to stop by before going back home since we didn’t get breakfast back at our hotel. (We had our traveling backpacks on us) they had us “wait” to see if they had a table available for us when we got in they had. A total of 5 open tables all cleaned and waiting for customers. Once we got seated we waited another 10 min and our waited tried to take our order but we didn’t even have a menu so he had to get us some. Waiter was the only person who honestly was very nice to us.
I am not sure if it was bc we had all our stuff on us but this is not okay. The day before we went to Mission 19 and the service...
