Saw the positive reviews and went on a mission to find this place one Friday night in May. Walked past a Japanese restaurant in an alley way and was met with a dead end. I hear voices behind me ushering me into the restaurant. I said if they knew of a jazz bar around here. Yes they said, but it’s funk tonight and they ushered me down the stairs. You are greeted to the sight of a cool as a cucumber looking small bar with crowded tables and a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Locals and out of towners mixed together in anticipation of the music about to be played. The service was discreet yet incredibly efficient. It was funk but drifted into a the avant garde on occasion. The second song sounded like Primus which in my book is no bad thing. Loved it, loved it,...
Read moreWe noted a swarm of positive reviews over several years before attending.
The place was hard to find, located in the back of a Japanese restaurant, and most tables were reserved.
Learning points:
The music (jazz on the night of our visit) was outrageously loud, to the point of glasses and bottles shaking at the bar. The replacement of bourbon with a vastly more expensive imported whiskey was not made clear for all drinks purchased. The difference in price per cocktail was not adjusted, with shots of the replacement whiskey just added on. 2 shots ended up costing 420 pesos…! Additionally, the servers mixed up two tables’ bills, leading to the need for two transactions.
The cocktails were nice and well made. It’s worth attending, but be sure to clarify the pricing and what you are...
