Edit, I have updated my review after the business responded to my initial review (which I appreciate). I added an extra star and did some editing of my opinion since some of my feelings about the restaurant were based on my personal tastes. However, I'm reviewing my experience, not everyone in my party and the type of food I enjoy.
We went here because of all of the great reviews and I was a bit disappointed. The food wasn't for me, but this might also just be me. I'm in Cozumel to experience local food. This was too "Americanized" for me. However, if you're in the mood for a burger, steak, or a bit what what I would consider fusion food and appetizers you should give it a try.
Sereno Cozumel does have a great view which is admittedly beautiful at sunset.
Some of the negatives which I stand by. The server didn't come around and refill our waters (we were there for a while) - appetizers, drinks, dinner, and dessert. So coming by one time doesn't show me service, and when my water glass is empty for over 30 minutes it's a failure. There were a few occasions I had to get up to ask the server for something. Other more local locations are on you, and make sure you are taken care of. I did not feel this way here, but this is my general experience at the more Americanized (or maybe touristy) restaurants.
Even though there were only 2 other tables I had to ask for my check multiple times when we were obviously done and ready to go. Lots of servers standing around talking at the bar. Perhaps this was an off night, but I don't think that we will be returning nor would I recommend.
A few positive points. Two of my daughters liked the burger, and the fish of the day. They were very happy with their food. I did have a split order (some there and some to go), which was brought out...
Read moreI didn't count but I've heard it's 59 steps to get up to the restaurant and I can believe it! The view is fabulous though. It's a wonderful place to go to do some boat watching + for sunset. I had an absolutely excellent salad of mixed greens with fresh mango and grapefruit. The waiter had to go back to the kitchen to make sure they had fresh ingredients for a nice mixed green salad so maybe sometimes that's not available? I also enjoyed the mango shrimp Pizza but I wouldn't get it again. It's a very thin crust pizza but still the bottom wasn't quite as brown as I would have liked. There are certainly other items on the menu that I will try next time I go but I'll probably get a salad again, it was that good. I found their prices pretty reasonable considering the view, but that may be because it is rather out of the way and again the three flights up will probably throw some people off. This restaurant is on top of the albatross hotel and is open air. Sorry that the pictures I captured just don't do justice to the view. I have to mention that one thing I definitely did not not like and is the primary reason for four stars on the atmosphere is the pounding electronic music. I came expecting a nice Serene atmosphere and it just got to me so much that I ended up leaving 20 minutes before sunset because I couldn't take the thump thump thump thump thump thump any more after an...
Read moreMy friend and I spent a week in cozumel staying at albatros, the hotel below this restaurant. We went up to try it on our first night since we were tired from our long trip in and literally ended up coming back 5/7 nights we stayed! The food is unbelievable, so delicious and well priced. The cocktails are the best we had on the island! Try the jalapeño cucumber gimlet if you like a bit of spice!
The sunset from the rooftop is so beautiful and the ambiance is very chill. The live music on Friday was amazing and made for a lovely addition to the meal.
Our server Joel was one of the best parts of our trip! He spent so much time and effort getting to know us and making each meal we had with them memorable. His suggestions were perfect and he gave us so many great tidbits of information on the island culture and customs with each dish. We celebrated our birthdays on the trip and he took the time to bring us birthday candles for our dessert and make the evening truly special. The restaurant itself is amazing to begin with but his service truly went above and beyond what we would have expected!
Also a shout out to the cooks and bartenders who always warmly welcomed us with a smile and kindly helped us practice our Spanish!
We will be raving about this place for years to come and would suggest it with the utmost confidence to any friends or family...
