We ate here yesterday and the food was really nice. Cheap and big portions. We ordered seafood (cheviche mix) and the fish was really fresh. There was an happy hour and we enjoyed the cocktails, we even got one from the house. We recommend this restaurant. The staf was kind and helpfull and the location is perfect! There were also lots of locals ;)

Je ne recommande pas d’y manger. Personne n’a aimé (nous étions 4). Attrape touriste assez évident mais la note sur Google nous a incité à essayer. Le guacamole était très bon, et c’est le seul point positif concernant la nourriture. Le nachos poulet n’était franchement pas bon et les tacos au bœuf vraiment mauvais et sans aucun accompagnement ou garniture. Juste des bouts de viande peu appétissantd.Ci joint la photo de nos tacos… En deux voyages au Mexique et une 30aine de restaurants c’est l’un des moins bons que nous ayons fait, et certainement pas l’un des moins chers mais ça c’est par ce qu’on est à holbox. Je n’ai retrouvé aucune saveur de la bonne cuisine mexicaine dans nos assiettes. Notre serveur était gentil par contre. Dans les autres points négatifs, ils ont ajouté le pourboire de 10% d’office sur le ticket de caisse alors que partout ailleurs au Mexique c’est le client qui décide. Je n’ai pas apprécié la démarche. Bref, un attrape touriste.

By FAR the best restaurant we went to in Holbox. Friendly staff and patron, you can pay by card (3%fee though) and food was awesome. Not the cheapest not the priciest, just right. We tried guacamole, Ceviche and garlic Calamar and they were are delicious. Stop looking and just come here :)

I genuinely think this place is rated so high because it’s CHEAP not because it’s has the best food in town..

The food I had was OK. Nothing to rave about. They don’t have appetizers, it’s just a hole in the wall with cheap plate lunches.

Also: I splurged and got the lobster with mushrooms, white wine sauce, and Parmesan. I was thinking it’s going to be a whole tail with a white wine sauce sprinkled with some Parmesan... Boy was I wrong. It was chopped up lobster tail smothered in the thickest Parmesan cheese sauce and mushrooms. Incredibly thick and heavy, and they also ruined my lobster. It was so overcooked it had the texture of chicken.

Incredible food! My fiancé and I tried many other restaurants in Holbox and were not impressed UNTIL we tried Cocal! INCREDIBLY good tacos! We had the fish tacos, shrimp tacos and enchalada de pollo con salsa mole and they were delicious! The food is served with guacamole, pico de gallo and chips. Good quality food for sure and strongly recommended.

Aside from the food, René and Edgar that worked in the restaurants were extremely nice and friendly. Their service was amazing, and they definitely contributed to our fantastic stay in Isla Holbox. Strongly...

El Cocal de Holbox has so far been our favourite place to eat on the island. We had dinner (a burger, prawns with rice and salad and a lobster) and drinks there. The food was incredibly tasty, had the feel of home cooked meals, the ingredients were fresh, cooked very well and tasty. The staff were so lovely and kind, and the atmosphere really easy going and pleasant. We will definitely be going back before we leave Holbox. On top of everything, there was a gorgeous and friendly pup there that hang out with us, and let us stroke him which...
