Guru Beach Club & Restaurant — Restaurant in Isla Mujeres

Unfortunately guru has gone completely downhill in qaulity and service. After coming here a few years back, I was excited to return and even got an airbnb near by so I could frequent on my stay. After spending the day, I was completely shocked at how the service and qaulity was. First, prices have gone up, now with an additional 500 pesos for a day bed. Upon arriving previously the service team would greet, clear the day beds of sand, and were very attentive during the stay. The place was not very busy and most of the sevice team was on their phone at the bar neglecting the few patrons there. As the place was not very busy and each day bed comes with 2 small pillows i grabbed a few more pillows from a completely unsued set, which I was told we were not allowed as it messed with the asthetic lol. Also, the drinks felt less strong and almost watered down. To the point where we were ordering doubles to make up for it. Still very light at almost 25usd per drink. After letting the sevice team know, they metioned that they would use top shelf liqour on the next round of drinks and we would not be charged. I also need to add that we were there the majority of the day and spent close to 500usd during the day. So when my girlfriend accidently knocked her margarita over that she hadnt taken one sip of, I was surprised to hear that we would be charged full price for another one. When the bill came we noticed we had extra charges that were not ours and the supposed "comped" liqour we were completely charged for. After trying to recrify the bill we were told that is was accurate and they could not do anything. Obviously at this point we were frustrated and the server looks at us and says "i guess no tip? As someone who works in hospitality my self this was a completely unacceptable experience from start to finish. If you value an authentic beach club experience guru is dropping the ball from what it once was. There are so many other options on the island, save your time and money and go...

This beach club sits on one of the most beautiful beaches you can imagine. That's about the only positive about this place.

Isla Mujeres has become a tourist money grab. I remember visiting about 10 years ago and being surprised at how much cheaper everything was compared to the states. Not anymore.

I don't mind paying luxury prices for a luxurious experience but it felt like we were really roughing it at this place.

The cheapest shot of tequila was $15 and they were served in the tiniest glasses. A regular 12oz can of modelo was $10.

The cost to reserve a bed was only $50 which wasn't too bad. But other places will outfit your day bed with an umbrella, sheets etc. Not here. Others might credit your rental towards your food and beverage bill when you check-out. Not here.

Service wasn't great. The server barely paid us any attention throughout our time here.

I went to the bathroom and there was a lady sitting on a chair at the entrance. I'm guessing her job is to make sure only patrons can enter. The bathroom was gross. The floors were slippery and covered in water and who knows what else. As I walked out I told the lady who was sitting in the chair out front that they were out of hand soap and paper towels and she looked at me like, 'that's nice.'
