I was lucky enough for this restaurant to be recommended in 2019, 5 years ago, when it had just opened. Now, mid April 2024, we returned and brought family and friends. This is not only by far the best of the many excellent restaurants in Isla Mujeres (in 5 visits to Isla I have visited very many, large and small, but not all of them, yet), it is one of the finest restaurants I have ever eaten at, ANYWHERE (over 32 countries). . The food is original and imaginative, and delicious. The portions are ample (we had lots of boxes of leftovers). The prices are reasonable. Take a look at their photos and menu with this Google Maps listing; it is a challenge to decide from the many and varied offerings. I won't list here what we ate. Depending on your preferences, you will find something excellent. But, everything tastes so good, and is beautifully presented, this may be a good opportunity to order something outside your usual preferences. . The service is friendly and attentive. We frequently made requests beyond just ordering; more napkins, a glass of ice, boxes for leftovers, etc. . I hope it is clear that I highly recommend Mahache. Try it, you will like it. . My only issue I would present to the owner is that the fragrance of incense literally diminished the otherwise excellent atmosphere. I highly doubt that the incense was to cover up unpleasant smells. But, good food is an experience for the eyes, the mouth, and the nose. Taste and smell literally work together; the incense diminishes the olfactory pleasure of the meal. I hesitated to include this opinion, and do not want to dissuade anyone from trying this excellent and...
Read moreOutstanding restaurant in every aspect! We sat at the bar as there were only two of us, and they were super busy. The bartenders were awesome, routinely engaging with us, and checking to ensure everything was perfect. Every team member was extremely professional, taking great pride in everything they did! From pre chilling wine glasses to always using a tray to serve every order, even if it was only one basket of bread! We shared an appetizer, mignon gratin cheese with mignon, gouda, blue cheese, garlic, pepper, and white wine, served with toasted bread, which was divine. Both of us ordered the garlic crusted grouper, which was also outstanding! The grouper was served with large grilled potato, sweet potato, red pepper, and zucchini slices. The fish was the catch of the day (as was the snapper), and the presentation was perfect! I can't say enough good things about the service and the quality! They also had a musician performing background music further adding to our already wonderful experience! I strongly recommend Mahache!!! We'll be going back again...
Read moreGreat place for tacos! Reasonably priced, great flavours- I would highly recommend!
The service was good, husband and I managed well even if we didn't speak Spanish much.
Lots of seating inside, and seems to have a spot where there could be live music.
Husband and I got fish tacos and strip steak tacos. Now, most people might have been pretty content with the tacos the way they were, but husband and I really preferred putting some hot sauce on. It really adds another layer of flavour that fully satisfies that taco craving.
Interior has a warm, beachy ambience, with plenty of local artwork displayed on the walls available for purchase as well.
Be advised, Isla Mujeres is not very car-friendly- the roads are super tight, and mostly only room for gold carts, motor scooters, motorcycles, bikes, and taxis.
Also, just be advised- most/many places only accept or prefer cash. Paying with credit leads to extra fees sometimes. There are banks in the neighborhood (North Part), and other currency exchange kiosks on the island.
For Mahaché, we did pay by credit...
