Café La Serenata (Bistro&Bohemia) — Restaurant in Jalisco

We have been trying to get here for about a year, but something always prevented it. Finally got here with a group of 6... and it was not quite what any of us were hoping for. Most were on board with the "food is good, not great" bandwagon. Same with service and atmosphere. Most ordered pizza. There may be a disconnect on what these six gringos expected. Ingredients were a bit sparse, the cheese and sauce were paper thin, and the crust was floppy (not crisp). We were also quite bad at Spanish, and our server was also bad at English, so there were a few misunderstandings during our visit... like ordering iced tea and getting basil infused water? Never had that before, and will never again. Lol. Also, my wife had salmon (overcooked) and wanted to take home the rest for the dog. They threw it away. Ha! Anyway, they were gracious enough to cook her another piece, but we had to wait 20 minutes for the replacement. All in all, it was just an...

Upstairs area is very nice, little bit more quiet than the street side seating.

Bloody Mary was good but quite spicy.

Fisherman entree was fantastic! Excellent salmon (medium rare), on a bed of mushrooms with black olives, seasoned potato wedges, and a really nice salad.

Spanish tapas were very good, bread with half cherry tomatoe, some greenery, goat cheese, black olive, cheese, and prosciutto.

My father really enjoyed the shrimp & chicken fettuccine. The shrimp were delicious and had a smokey taste.

The vegetarian pizza was ... fine. Thin crust, tons of spinach, pineapple, black olives, green pepper slices, cheese and sauce. It all tasted fresh and I love thin crust, I just wish the pizza had been more flavorful. Wouldn't have been vegetarian, but anchovies would have been perfect for this.

Blueberry cheesecake was okay, looked very nice, but I would have liked...

We had a series of unfortunate events. The atmosphere was okay and the waiter was pleasant but he just was not having a great day.

Despite our efforts to try to enjoy the place we were not able to have a nice evening and left with a bad taste and the thought of never returning.

The drinks were late and in a glass that looked like a wannabe fancy but classless restaurant. The salmon was overcooked and salty. The pasta arrived cold and when we asked to heat the pasta, it returned after being cooked with the oil and now it was fried and chewy. We ordered the check wanting to just get done with the evening; however, we get surprised with the fries that were supposedly part of the salmon meal. Poor fries, they were also forgotten and cold.
