Lucky Bar, Ajiic. — Restaurant in Jalisco

I really wanted to like this place, especially since it was my first bar experience in Mexico. My husband and I arrived late in the country, and after a long flight into Guadalajara followed by a drive to Ajijic, we were exhausted but looking forward to winding down with a couple of drinks before heading to our Airbnb.

We noticed Lucky Bar was open, and since it’s LGBTQ-friendly (which we fully support), we decided to give it a try. The atmosphere seemed welcoming at first, and we ordered our first round of drinks. When I asked what time the bar closed, the bartender seemed unsure but said 11:30 PM, even though there were still guests outside. Wanting to make sure we got a second round before closing, I placed my order at 11:22 PM—well within the stated hours—but was told they wouldn’t serve me another drink. This was disappointing, especially since the posted hours indicate the bar is open until midnight.

I understand that sometimes places close earlier than expected, but clearer communication and consistency would have made for a better experience. Unfortunately, this left a sour note on what could have been a great first...

We’re willing to give the place another try. We are a gay couple, together many years. Last fall on an afternoon, we went in for the first time. Obviously, we knew they had drinks, but also asked if they also had food or snacks and the woman behind the bar, with her arms crossed, said “No” in a less than friendly manner. Even though two guys at a table we’re having snacks. We got a very negative “we don’t want you here” vibe and left. From the remarks, locals seem to love the place. We’ll be locals soon. We own a B&B in Guadalajara and were in Ajijic for the weekend. We went to Lucky Bar on Saturday evening and had a great time. Judo, the owner, makes everyone feel welcome and mixes great cocktails. The locals who visit the bar are friendly and offer welcoming information about Ajijic. Although we have over thirty gay bars and clubs in walking distance of our B&B in Guadalajara, we look forward to returning to Lucky Bar for another weekend of diverson.
