Was on a sleepless, red-eye to Guadalajara (GDL) and the hotel check-in wouldn’t be until several hours later. So I did what I do best with no sleep and went hunting for food! Thankfully, I didn’t have to wander too far before I found El Taco Vegano just a few blocks away facing the north side of Parque Revolución. It has a charming dining area with tree trunk tables and wooden stools and fresh cut flowers.
The menu had all vegan versions of your Mexican favorites (tacos and quesadillas), but I kept getting drawn to the torta ahogada special. It may have been on the earlier side of the day but they say, you don’t visit GDL without trying a torta ahogada. Like its namesake, it’s literally a sandwich drowned in a red spicy sauce made out of cumin and chile de arbor. The flavors came out to play and jolted me wide awake. If a torta, especially that early, isn’t your thing, talk to Patty for her recommendations; she’s super friendly and will take...
Read moreI had a vegan tacos with Colliflower as the base, and a spicy salad with onions, avocados and other good things in it, which, as a foreigner, I found quite hot but still absolutely delicious.
I also enjoyed two refreshing green lemon juices—they were incredibly tasty! I plan to come back and try the sandwiches next time. Fortunately, they had pictures of their food on their Facebook page, which made it much easier for me to decide what to order since my Spanish isn't very strong, and I'm unfamiliar with the local dishes.
The staff was friendly and kind, and I really appreciated the quiet, relaxing music. The only improvement I would suggest is making the menu a bit more accessible, as it was a little challenging for me to navigate with Spanish as my second language. That would definitely help as a foreigner to choose their food without speaking the language.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I am looking forward to try the...
Read moreIf you decide to go to this place well... definitely try the "taco de asada" is good. Unfortunately in our visit it was almost all a downside: the waiter was an old guy who didn't know much about the menu or anything else In the restaurant, he offered food that was not available. The person serving or preparing the food was totally in another dimension the old man had to repeat the order several times. The tables and the restroom were dirty and in pretty bad shape. About the food aside the taco de asada the other two options available were pretty tasteless, because although tacos is their "specialty" as the waiter said they only had three options available and no cheese, so half of their menu was not available. Lemonade was not good either. My suggestion is if you want some good vegan tacos and for a better price, excellent attention and far better taste, just a few steps away you'll find La Estacion Vegana you definitely had...
