Really disappointing experience and service. Especially after Elixir came highly recommend. I rarely write reviews unless they are very good or very bad and hate to do this to small business but this was an awful experience.
As we arrived 4 people were leaving and sitting at the bar. We thought that because they left there would be space for us. One server came over and told us that there was no space and to go back outside to wait even though we just watched 4 people leave (the bar was wiped down too).
10 minutes later we were let in and the host warned us we would be in the back and that the room was a little warm - ok, no problem. The room turned out to be a staff break room, away from the bar and live DJ. We asked the host if they could seat us in the bar when space opens up (ask #1).
15 mins later someone came to take our order and we ask if once there was more space in the bar if we could get a spot (ask #2). She seemed confused but acknowledged our request after taking our order.
Drinks came 20 minutes later and were pretty good. The bartender was kind and brought them to us - we asked again (ask #3) if there was space and if we could sit near the bar. The bartender said she would check/make room and get back to us.
5 minutes later I go around the corner and see plenty of empty space as well as new groups who arrived after us sitting at the bar or tables. We started wondering if there was something wrong with us and if for some reason they don't want us in the bar.
We are pretty frustrated at this point and ready to leave. Employees (all of which we asked to move from the staff room) are continuing to come in from the bar to grab stuff from the fridge in a storage room tucked in the corner of the staff room we're in.
10 minutes later - we finish our drinks and no one has checked on us since we got them and we leave the staff room to the bar to get the bill. Amazingly there are people dancing, space at the bar, free tables, and the server who took our first order is sitting at a table with her friends (who arrived after us) drinking...
EDIT: I now see Thursdays are 'Ladies Nights' from another review - we were 2 men and 1 woman. In another comment from the owner I see "all are welcome" but for us it certainly didn't...
Read moreThis is not mixology, its simply bar tricks and a "show" with your cocktail.
If you are an actual cocktail head, and appreciate the craft and creativity this place will not fulfill your desire while in PV. Drinks were average at best, and for the money i would have expected much more. The place was an interesting setup, dark and not too loud with the music so you could have a conversation. The staff seemed nice enough and tried to accommodate you if you didn't find anything from the menu. I asked for something with Mezcal, egg whites, and to not go straight to the citrus to be creative and i was brought out something that resembled a margarita. The egg whites seemed nowhere to be found, and it simply was sub par with little effort to creativity. We ended up doing one and done, as the next group in who had already had a little too much to drink were getting a bit loud and rowdy. Just because you burn a little mesquite to add some smoky essence, or igniting the citrus from an orange peel does not make...
Read moreMy partner and I love experiencing local bars during our travels. An impressive gin bar in Malaga, Spain, a fantasticslly friendly spot in Salema, Portugal, are among our favorites. But when we met up with a teammate of mine at the Elixir in Puerto Vallarta, we were blown away! Elena, the owner, welcomed us as if we were long-lost friends and seemed to do so with anyone else who walked through the door. We were mesmerized by Valeria, Claudia, and Elena as they crafted our cocktails behind the bar. Their movememts finely choreographed as they perfected their works of art. Each drink was as delicious as it was beautiful. Elixir has a vibrant yet intimate vibe. Think dancing with friends to lively house music or enjoying a romantic evening with a first date. Either could happen, maybe even at the same time. Don't skip this place! Make it a "must do"...
