I’m updating my previous 5-star review to 3 stars. Since Chef Felix left, the food quality has noticeably declined. We live nearby and have noticed different people n the kitchen when we walk by.
We’ve given it a few chances the past year, ordering simple dishes that used to be great. The guacamole, once a highlight, is now bland and uninspiring. The chicken sandwich, previously juicy and flavorful, was dry, tough, and under-seasoned. The final straw was the 300-peso chicken fajitas that we'd ordered to go. The dish had very little chicken, and what was there was overcooked and stringy. The tortillas were inedible, must have been fresh at some point but maybe they'd sat around for too long? The peppers were edible but lacked any real fajita character. Very disappointing for a restaurant that had such promise in the past.
The only reason I’m still giving 3 stars is because of the kind and helpful lady who helps out occasionally at the restaurant and works at the affiliated store next door as well as the consistently friendly staff.I hope the restaurant can come back in the future but until then, I can no longer recommend this restaurant. The following was my original review a year ago. A neighborhood gem, high up the hill on Nicaragua in 5 Diciembre, but also worth the drive from other areas. Don't be in a hurry when you come as the food is fresh and made to order. First comes the hot tortilla chips, a toothsome delight. We then watched Chef prepare our shrimp burritos and knew we were in for a treat and we weren't disappointed. We spoke briefly to Chef and learned that the key to all these well deserved 5 star reviews is the freshness of the food they serve. The daily menu is displayed on a board out front. Looking forward to returning so we can try different fresh entrees. The atmosphere is clean and friendly with a small dining area ,(without feeling crowded). The prices are appropriate for the restaurant. We spent under 200MX per person...
Read moreI’m currently staying in a VRBO rental right next door to this place. Let me tell you, five stars in my opinion, is not high enough of a rating that this place deserves. The owner & chef Ernesto is an alchemist in his kitchen. It’s too easy to judge a book by its cover, but his friendly and the way he welcomes you into his kitchen is something I could not turn down.
Everything you order, he makes in front of you, on the spot! This is what fast food should be. I’ve experienced Michelin star rated restaurants in the past and they don not compare to the quality that this man produces in his well seasoned pans and beautiful kitchen.
He even recognize that I was feeling I’ll, and literally made me fresh chicken soup on the spot. And it tasted as if my Mexican grandmother had made it herself. I have never used that analogy with any other food that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed; but Ernesto has easily earned such a comparison.
I simply just cannot recommend this place if you ever find yourself vacationing in Puerto Vallarta. You have to try this place. To get the experience of Ernesto’s cooking he’s in the kitchen from 10am-9pm. I promise you...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews, and I was reluctant to do this one because I selfishly want to keep them a secret for as long as I can. Having said that, I can't keep this place to myself.
The food was fantastic. My family and I ate there on January 3rd. I had the BBQ short ribs with vegetables and Mexican rice, my wife had the chicken quesadillas, and our kid had the fish and chips. We chose to have the guacamole and chips for our appetizer.
My wife and I couldn't finish our plates, and our kid was pretty stuffed too.
The staff were very friendly, and like other reviews have noted, the food is freshly made to order.
They have it set up couples or groups, but with limited seating, which actually makes it feel like they are inviting you into their home. It is such a tranquil setting that you don't want to leave.
Prices are reasonable, especially for the portions. If you are able to get there, I highly recommend you...
