Gran Lumière — Restaurant in Mérida

What a great experience! We randomly entered this restaurant to drink a beer with a snack. But ultimately stayed for dinner, because the food was just so delicious and the friendly staff very welcoming.

But the very friendly staff was not the reason to stay. The food was just amazing; fresh, tasty and this dishes had a surprising twist. It has it all. We went for the boneless chicken with Bufallo sauce and after this, the Rib-eye. The bread was great as well!

About the chicken; the sauce was (for us) just on the right level of spiciness and finger-licking good. About the Rib-Eye; perfectly rare (maybe just a hint to salty) and on the side a very complimentary pepper sauce. Normally, we never eat our steak with sauce, because it has so much flavor on it’s own. But this was just too good.

Main dishes are dog food quality. Chef and su chef can cook as Appetizers are excellent but Main courses are low in quality. Had 3 different appetizers but They serve cruise ship rib eye steak. Most likely pork rib eye . It’s nasty. How do you not know what a simple rib eye is ?!? They agreed that they need a new vendor and showed me the packaged rib eye. Umm you are in Mexico , go to a ranch . I told them to give the steak to the dogs. The low life’s still charged $400 pesos for a non ribeye . Total spent 1,400 pesos and will never go back. As we travel with our small dog, we were attracted by the pet friendly note on the sidewalk sign outside of Gran Lumiere. We stopped in on a Saturday evening for drinks and dinner and I'm so glad we did. We were so warmly welcomed and looked after by every single staff member...manager, waiter, bartender, chef - everyone was so friendly! We were really grateful to see vegan and vegetarian options on the menu and the food ended up being some of the best we've had in our 10 days in the city! We loved the relaxed vibe and the beautiful live acoustic music was the cherry on top. This would definitely be a regular stop for us if we lived in the city full time. Highly recommend!
