We have been going to Sonora reataurants since prior to Covid including their Grill and Prime concepts all over Mexico which includes CDMX (4.separate locations), Monterrey, Merida, Playa Del Carmen, PV and Cancun. They are very consistent with majority of their food concepts despite the location. I can say that we enjoy Mexican Wines and their offer where you can get 50% off the 2nd bottle of wine truly makes their restaurants an exceptional choice. As I said earlier, the food is consistent with items like the aguachile the camaron, asparagus wrapped in rib Eye, and the onion soup are the best starters EVER and I mean good enough to not worry about eating nothing else. Then if you still have more of an appetite you should enjoy the the brisket for 2 or the wellington burger. Their cuts of meat are great but truly dependent on the location. I would like to comment about our last and probably 20th experience at a Sonora restaurant. We were at Sonora Prime in CDMX centro historico for dinner on 2 separate occasions over a 4 night stay in CDMX in August 2024. Our server Julio is beyond amazing. He's an amazing server and even remembers us from prior visits along with everything we order with the special accommodations and makes sure we are content even when he's not serving us. This is unheard of and truly remarkable. We ask for him by name and if not available demand the same service. We ended up with Katia our second night and she was good as well. Julio still managed to ensure we were well served and along with the manager (Antonio Capitán Linarez) they ensured our last experience wasn't ruined due to issues with the kitchen and wine availability. Always make sure to ask for Julio and if he's not available please ask for Katia. Also know that if anything is off, you can count on their manager (Antonio Capitán Linarez) to ensure things are made right. Lastly, the dessert especially the tiramisu is a must. The Sonora Grill also offers the apple tart and chocolate bark. I do miss the complimentary ice cream/sherbet on waffle Cone........when it's all said and done make sure to enjoy the food, drinks and service ar any of their locations (only exemption would be Sonora Prime Playa del Carmen as its worst experience ever). They need to have an intervention or close given we've been there 3 times and not one was worth more...

Allocated at such an amazing spot, having high exposure, and placed at every tourist’ reference, I had much much higher expectations. We stepped in during Saturday lunch time with dining room been practically empty. Even though we have been placed at the table by waiter’s station, countless people been constantly running behind my back, destroying the ambiance. As a starter they served beans warmed spread with melted cheese on it. Seriously? Beans purée in what’s supposed to be top notch prime steakhouse? I asked for wine by the glass recommendations and it appears that no one could articulate anything beyond “good wine” in English. All 3 wines offered by the glass been ugly. We had later English speaking gentlemen from management asked us if everything is ok, but it couldn’t fix a broken flow. Also the waiter doesn’t know that it’s inappropriate to poor leftovers from one bottle and fill up from another, especially in a front of a customer! The bunch of waiters been circulating around and it didn’t allow enough time and room to go through the menu, especially considering inconvenience browsing through menu on a phone (COVID). Too much movement and people for so little outcome.

The tomato soup was just nothing special, the one I buy for $5 at home premade in supermarket has much deeper and more pleasant flavor. The meat I received was unimpressive to say the least, a primitive aka beginner culinary student type of cooking, blunt, salted, unevenly cooked, thin and unimpressive, especially for the price and pretentions .

No steak sauce, no chimmichuri, no adjika, nothing...

In short, Sonora Prime is a tourist trap, with absolutely no skills on water’s side and equally unskilled on cooking end. In my 7 days culinary tryout in Mexico City, this was outright the worst experience. It’s about the same level of refinement as you find in US “steakhouses” at every street mall, just here it’s 5-times the price. It’s especially appalling as there are some VERY great places serving top quality meat dishes around the...

It's located just past the front doors, to the right, in the Hilton Mexico City Reforma Hotel. The service was great, everyone was super friendly. The atmosphere was amazing, suitable for a night out with friends or romantic dinner for two. The only reason I gave them a 4 star review was because we did eat dinner there several times and the drinks were not bad but also not great, and some of the dishes I could have done without. First I will tell you about the one I would write home about and would definitely say my mouth waters when I think about it. The brisket tacos were amazing. They brought it to the table, set it on fire, and shredded it (I think the fire was more for the show, but it was a nice experience). It came with two sauces one mild the other pretty spicy, some lime, and very important freshly made tortillas. It was enough to feed 2 people. It was so good that after trying several other dishes on other nights we definitely had to have it again before coming back home from vacation. Other meals we had were wellington steak injected with cheese (we had high hopes for this one, but both of us were very disappointed with it), truffle fries (they were ok but not worth it), street tacos (they were good but overpriced for street tacos), calamari (it was ok, but I can do without, I do have to admit this one place in San Diego ruined calamari for me because it was amazing), cheesecake with berries (this one was very good but it is dense and pretty filling, decent size piece good for sharing), ice cream (I think they only had 2 flavors, it was good but not amazing). They give you complimentary chips and fried beans with cheese on top, the chips taste fresh every time and the beans are pretty delicious when they bring them out hot and fresh, one time they brought them out a bit cold and we didn't love them. Also, after your meal they bring you some complimentary churros (they're ok). I would definitely go back for the brisket tacos, and recommend to anyone I know is going to...

Our group of nine was warmly greeted by Javier, who initially seated us at a beautiful table. We decided to move as it was near the door and a bit breezy. Javier and the team, including our server Erick, Saul, and mixologist Carlos, provided outstanding service. Carlos even created a refreshing non-alcoholic passion fruit and kiwi drink that was delightful! We started with a bottle of Casa Madero 3V wine (Cabernet, Merlot, Tempranillo), a light and smooth blend that was a fantastic discovery. For appetizers, we enjoyed provolone cheese, shrimp casserole, asparagus wrapped in ribeye, beef carpaccio, octopus chicharrón, mandarina salad, iceberg salad, and queso fundido. Every dish was exquisite, beautifully presented, and full of fresh, vibrant flavors. For the main course, we ordered the ribeye and the center-cut ribeye. Both cuts were juicy, tender, and seasoned to perfection. My only minor note was that the fat on the ribeye wasn’t fully rendered, but this didn’t detract from the overall experience. Erick kindly offered to crisp it into pork skins, but by then we were ready for dessert. I did appreciate Erick’s willingness to make it right. Dessert did not disappoint! The guava cheesecake was the star—light, flavorful, and simply amazing. The tiramisu, with its chocolaty twist, was also a hit—different from the traditional version but equally indulgent. Overall, I’d rate this restaurant an overall 5 stars. From the impeccable service to the delicious food and inviting ambiance, it was an experience I would gladly repeat and highly recommend.
