Chetito’s tacos misses the mark when it comes to taste & price. With so many options in the area, if you decide to skip this place: you won’t be missing much.
Alernatives: Among the myriad options, here are a few worth considering: Tizne Tacomotora (Roma): Known for their creative smoked meat tacos. Taqueria El Chalet (Del Valle): Their signature high-quality cheese tacos are a must-try. Taqueria Orinoco (Zona Rosa/Roma/Condesa): A tourist hotspot but offers consistently high-quality classic tacos. Taqueria Gabriel: Just a block away from Chetito’s, they offer classic tacos and some tacos with modern twists at half the price.
The only item on the menu I can recommend is not even a taco - it’s a cocktail:
The Mezcalero is a simple and well-executed cocktail with Mezcal Unión (good mezcal), lime juice, hierbabuena (spearmint), grapefruit, and some rosemary. Not overly sweet and for this heat, so deliciously refreshing.
This is one of the few times I didn’t take any photos of the food. Unfortunately I was uninspired by anything I drank or ate.
The Good: Friendly and professional staff. Refreshing cocktails. Card payments are accepted.
The Okay: . Apparently it gets super packed. Reservations are highly recommended.
The Bad: Beware if you're visiting during the rainy season (June - September). The outdoor seating can turn into a blood donation camp for the mosquitos. Menu with forgettable taco names that would test your memory power. Who wants a memory test while choosing food, right? The Taco Morita, for instance, was an underwhelming blend of chistorra (Spanish sausage) wrapped in hoja santa leaf, despite the intriguing ingredients and a 15-minute anticipation: this taco was plainly unremarkable. Price-wise their tacos range from $65 pesos (about $3.76 USD at the time of writing) to $88 pesos ($5.09 USD). The design, portion size, and most importantly, the taste, do not justify these prices. Other comparable "creative" tacos, which offer superior taste, are available at half the price.
I’m a big fan of innovative food, but despite the food blogs and critics proclaiming Chetito’s creative tacos as the next big thing: My personal conclusion is that Chetito is the next big...
Read moreWe were meeting a friend for lunch at Chetitos. We arrived early "as they were opening ". We asked and they permitted us to grab a table. We ordered drinks only until our friend arrived. Point +1 for good service of not turning us away . They did not have cold drinks (-1 pnt) nor the drink brands ordered off the menu (-1) . Then after our friend arrived we ordered tacos, 3 for one person and 2 for each of the remaining two persons. In total 7 tacos. The server took copious notes and repeated the order to us. Following, the tacos arrived at the table one by one, spaced out by 5-10 mins. Further, and sadly for one of us three, we had to beg them multiple times to serve her 2-taco order. Ultimately she only recd 1 taco. Only when we moved to cancel the 2nd mystery- missing taco did some show any care. But we insisted on the cancelation. No other make - good was offered by the restaurant given there meaningful neglect. We saw other tables also struggle with server confusion and mis-queues. So, in sum, poor customer service, food service (-10). Wah wah waaah! . HOWEVER, the tacos were EXCELLENT. We had ribeye tacos, and ceviche tostadas. All really well made with meaningful portions. Ambience was not good nor bad. All very simple place but with a chatty, busy lunch crowd. If you can put up with the inept service, go here. Tacos are awesome. Chetito owner - invest a bit in hiring and firing ... and also in a bit of training and controls and messurement of service quality. I'm thinking for many , improved services makes your place one of the best and the envy of many others in the crowded space...
Read moreWAY TOO LOUD. But the best elevated tacos in the neighborhood and only $70-110 each! Lighting is low, there WILL be a line (with mosquitos), and if you order a lot of tacos, they may forget to bring some of them (don’t worry, they won’t charge you). But the honey marinated raw tuna alone is worth it 💯 So far, these are my favorite tacos in Mexico (and yes, I live here). Spanish and English friendly. ⏰ Once you sit, you can eat and pay in less than one hour if you need to hurry. But this isn’t a fast experience. Savor these little tortilla treasures. Good for groups of 2-8 people.
♿️ Wheelchair accessible entrance and dining area, but the path is narrow. Booths and normal low top tables. Low lighting (better near the door). Very loud (the music is okay, but hearing every table’s conversations is overwhelming). 🥬 multiple vegetarian options available.
⚠️ Note for Management: please invest in sound proofing or dampening. Having to yell to your dining companions and the waiters misunderstanding your order and forgetting items really detracts from this otherwise...
