Wow!!! If you’re in Mexico City and looking for amazing baked goods that are actually healthy, you MUST drop by Chokolat Pimienta Healthy Bakery!
I was in town for a month and broke my ‘no repeat visits’ rule just for this place because it’s that good! Everything here is not only delicious; they’re also healthier, with no added refined sugars and gluten-free!
If you have any allergies, dietary restrictions, or you’re from San Francisco / Los Angeles, then this is your spot to indulge without the guilt. I wish we had a bakery like this near where I live in the US.
The owner and head baker is super friendly. She welcomes everyone with the biggest smile—makes you feel right at home! All the positive energy filled me with great spirit for the rest of the day. And for anyone worried about language barriers, she speaks fantastic English.
My absolute favorite? The pistachio, rose, and cardamom cake—pure heaven!!!
Before leaving town, I even ordered a large version of that cake to share with everyone at my CrossFit class, and it was a MASSIVE hit. Everyone loved it and wanted more.
Trust me, whether you’re a local or just visiting, this is a spectacular, must-visit, healthier...
Read moreMy sourdough was a little stale so had to be toasted, but still some of the best gf bread i've ever had! Even my gluten eating friends agreed it tasted like wheat bread!!!
Unfortunately half a loaf is around 5 shrinking slices for 110 pesos so definitely a treat and not a staple, but I understand how expensive certified gf products can be.
Sadly their vegan options are quite limited and lacklustre (cookie, monk fruit brownie, banana muffin D:). It was very good for a banana muffin, but in the end it was still the same old banana based stuff, which unfortunately makes it not worth the price.
If you're vegan, this place is really for you to get your bread fix, as there's better and cheaper vegan desserts elsewhere. But the...
Read moreChokolat Pimienta has a cozy, well-designed space in Mexico City with a modern, stylish feel - a nice setting for a casual bite.
We tried three egg-based sandwiches (with avocado, chicken, and salad). The ideas were good, but the gluten-free bread was too thin and didn't hold up well, and the flavors were quite mild. The sides were mostly chips, which felt more like filler than a thoughtful, balanced addition. A fresh salad or veggie option would be a great improvement.
We also had a muffin that was beautifully presented but overly sweet, and two coffees that arrived lukewarm. Paying closer attention to temperature and sweetness could really enhance the experience.
Service was kind and presentation was polished. With a few adjustments to balance, flavor, and quality control, this spot could stand out more - especially for health-conscious or gluten-free diners in CDMX. Given the relatively simple meal, though, the $60 USD price felt high for both the food and the local dining scene.
