I have had over 50 nights in hotels this year between work and leisure travel. This boutique hotel is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at, for several reasons. My wife and I were on a trip to Oaxaca for a friend's wedding. We decided to do a 24hr layover each way in Mexico City so we could experience it a little bit. We arrived to the hotel about 10am. We were immediately greeted at the door by Heriberto, who instantly recognized I was struggling with Spanish and he switched to English. He was very pleasant and helped us with our bags. And even though it was too early too check in to a room, he ensured us he would keep our bags safely stored away in a luggage closet while we went and explored the city a little bit and until we returned. Excellent customer service! When we went to the front desk, it was like everyone was happy to see us. We talked to Ingrid, who was really awesome! She was also an expert in English, and to my Brazilian wife's surprise, Ingrid also knew Portuguese, and spoke to my wife about her experience living in Brazil for a few years. Ingrid was genuinely nice to us, and asked us questions about our plans while in Mexico. She also let us know that if we had any questions or concerns or needed anything while we were there, they would be happy to help. We really felt like we were old friends. She even asked if we wanted to try a novelty signature drink. We took it, of course! To our surprise, the wonderful cafe at the hotel provided us free snacks and drinks, which we could take advantage of even before our check in because we were early. We grabbed a couple of coffees there and they were great. On our way out, Heriberto asked what we planned on doing, and we said we weren't quite sure but we knew we wanted to see a few things and get some good tacos. He was kind to give us his recommendations, and we went to every one, and were so happy we did! The hotel room was very clean, which is the most important characteristic of any hotel for me. I am very critical on a hotel's cleanliness, and this one was very very clean! I recommend trying to book the room with the little balcony. It was awesome, and surprisingly very quiet at night! We left early on the next morning to Oaxaca, and were planning on staying in a different neighborhood on the way back through Mexico City. We had booked a place in Roma Norte. However, we decided to cancel that other hotel and book again at Hotel Historico Central, since we knew it was so good. On our way back through Mexico City, we were supposed to arrive about 7pm. However, Volaris cancelled our flight, and forced us to take a 2am flight that arrived in Mexico City at 3:15am. I called the hotel and informed them it would be a very late check-in past midnight. They assured me they would keep my room and inform the overnight desk staff that I would be arriving late. When we arrived at 3:45am, they knew me by name as I walked in, and had my key ready to go. All I had to do was give them one signature and we were on our way to our room. When we arrived to our room, on our bed was a very kind note from our friend, Ingrid, saying she was glad we were staying there again! Now that is fantastic customer service! We slept until about 10:00am and even though check-out was not until noon, we wanted to explore more until our flight out that evening. As I brought our bags downstairs, we saw Heriberto again and he waved and came over to us to help us with our bags. He even remembered our names! I couldn't believe it! Again he told us not to worry about the bags and he safely took care of them for us, which he kindly did.
The hotel is in a great location to walk to lots of museums and historical places too! We can't wait to come back to Mexico City, and when we do, we will...
Read moreWife and I stayed for 8 nights in October 2021 and were incredibly happy with the hotel. The rooms were very clean and just big enough for the two of us. The only negative about the room is that it didn't come with a mini refrigerator but that is my own fault for not double checking that one would be supplied. The A/C worked fine and the bed was comfortable. I wasn''t a huge fan of the shower because the door wouldn't seal properly and water would always leak out onto the rest of the bathroom floor, but it wasn't a big deal at the end of the day. We asked for an iron and ironing board at the front desk which was delivered within a few minutes. The front desk also supplied us with extra soap, towels, and other little accessories at no additional charge. The room was quiet and we rarely heard other guests in the building.
Everyone we interacted with at the hotel were more than happy to help us with any needs. 95% of the staff had a very positive attitude and could speak English. Thankfully my wife is a native Spanish speaker which made things a lot easier when talking with anyone. The staff even contacted us a few days in advance to let us know our flight would be coming in so early that they advised we get an extra night so we could recover from the "red-eye" flight. Thankfully we took up the offer because we were both completely exhausted upon arriving at the hotel. The staff even set up a private driver to pick us up from the airport. It cost approximately $45 USD (including tip). In the future, I think I will stick to UBER which cost us less than $10 USD back to the airport.
Our room came with unlimited access to their onsite café including bread, coffee, chips, and drinks (minus alcohol). Breakfast was served from 7AM-11AM and came in handy when we had to meet a tour guide early at 8AM.
The hotel staff can also set up a tour for you which was very easy and affordable (about $40/per person for an 8+ hour tour). The tour bus picks you up at the hotel!
The staff were also very consistent with COVID-19 precautions by always checking temperatures and offering hand sanitizer. Additionally, the front desk was able to set up a PCR COVID test to be performed right at the hotel for our flight back to the USA. My only gripe was that the front desk kept giving us wrong information about the testing costs and procedures. We were first told 2500 pesos for both of us for the PCR test. Then we checked again and it was 2000 pesos for both of us. Upon setting up the appointment for the test, we were told it would be 2000 pesos for the PCR. We let them know repeatedly that we needed the PCR test and were told it was 2000 pesos total. I asked my wife to confirm this with the front desk five minutes later and was told it was actually 4000 pesos. When the test administrator showed up, he told us it was actually 5000 pesos. The test administrator said he would leave a receipt of payment at the front desk but failed to do so. I'd advise the front desk keep a price sheet handy for the different COVID-19 tests to avoid future confusion. Thankfully my wife and I had pulled out 5000 pesos from the bank the night before the tests otherwise we would have been scrambling to get the cash.
Lastly, the location was great. Less than five minute walk to the zocalo and I don't think we paid more than $10 USD for an UBER trip anywhere. Highly suggest Los Cocuyos which was like 2-3 blocks south of the hotel.
Great hotel. ...
Read moreI'm going to try really hard to convey just how incredible my stay at this hotel was. My friend and I traveled to Mexico City on a brief vacation and stayed at Hotel Historico Central. They helped set up transportation from the airport to the hotel. From the moment we entered the hotel, we were welcomed by warm and friendly faces. Every interaction that I had with any of the hotel staff was met with professionalism and genuine care for our well-being. The hotel was stunning, perfectly located and incredibly clean. The price was also right. The 24-hour Cafe service that included sandwiches and snacks was an excellent perk. The complimentary breakfast was delectable. They always have complimentary water bottles available. The rooms were perfectly sized and the beds embraced you with comfort.
Our vacation came to an abrupt halt when my friend suffered a medical emergency. The hotel connected me with a trusted doctor who came for a consultation and then recommended my friend be taken to a hospital immediately. The staff jumped into gear and helped in any way that they could. The ambulance came to get my friend and we went to the hospital and about a half hour later I received a text message from the hotel offering assistance of any kind. It was then that the hotel staff went from being staff to family. My friend's condition was a mystery for a few days and I stayed at the hotel with her and every single time I left to go to hotel for a short while to change and reset I was greeted with genuine concern for my friend's health.
I had to leave my friend and return home to my family but the hotel helped me make arrangements for her mother's arrival and were ready to help her the same way they helped us.
Going through a time of crisis in an unfamiliar City is terrifying enough but the staff at Hotel Historico Central supported us and helped us through the crisis. I seriously wanted to hug every single one of them before I left.
I want to take a moment here and thank the staff for an incredible stay and thank them for their support.
And for anyone looking for accommodations in Mexico City, Don't think twice and book this hotel. You...
