Great Hostel in the heart of Mexico City.
I have booked a shared room with 8 people through booking.com at the beginning of September. The room had 8 box type beds, a swipe card is used to open the room door and a key for the box bed. Inside the box you have a mattress, quite comfortable, has space for your luggage, few hangers, shelves and a small safe. They provide a towel, a sheet and a thin blanket to cover. The room and bed were clean. The bathroom is spacious and clean, has few toilets, showers and hair dryer. In each shower you have shampoo and shower gel. The internet was working well even on the terrace. The hostel has a unique interior decoration.
The staff at reception was friendly, they can store your luggage until your check in time or after check out. There is also an option to have breakfast, but it has only a few selections. Fruits (watermelon and papaya) with fruit yogurt, granola, 3 slices of bread with different kinds of jams, chilaquiles (tortilla chips and sauce) was the only salty food. There is a fridge so you can buy yourself food and store it there.
The hostel provides different walking tours every day (paid by tips at the end to the tour guide). They request €10 per person ($200pesos), however you pay as much as you wish. They also offer organised tours which can be booked at reception. You can join the morning yoga classes on the rooftop or in house evening gatherings like karaoke or game night. They have a WhatsApp group where they post all the upcoming events/tours etc.
I was lucky to have quiet roommates. My room was looking at the main road, the windows were open all the time, only on Friday evening there was loud music from the music stores below us (I believe) until like 2am, but if you are tired you will manage to sleep or use ear plugs.
Overall, I had a great stay, made a few new friends and I would recommend this hostel, as it is in a great location, friendly, clean, comfortable and has a great social...

I reserved a room at Hostel Barrio through my credit card travel portal. I emailed the hostel after booking and found out the room I had reserved was different from the room pictured in the travel portal. For reference, see the travel portal photos for a small double room vs. the micro room Hostel Barrio said I had reserved. The first had a bed and couch, while the micro suite is smaller with just a bed and shared bathroom.
I understand mistakes happen so reached out to Hostel Barrio and the credit card company to see if I could get a refund for false advertisement. Hostel Barrio sent me confirmation via WhatsApp and email showing that the pictures I saw were different to what I had reserved. The credit card company emailed Hostel Barrio, but they refused to give a refund. The credit card company asked that I contact Hostel Barrio to get the name of someone there who authorizes refunds and could help with the issue. I messaged Hostel Barrio on WhatsApp but they have now gone silent and do not answer me.
I originally thought this was an innocent mistake, but am concerned this was a deliberate scam since I can no longer get in contact with Hostel Barrio.
Also note that the price of the small double room in the credit card portal is $112 USD/night (discounted to $60/night at the time of booking). The price of the micro suite on Hostel Barrio’s website is $38 US/night ($727.65 pesos). I know it is always cheaper to book directly with the property, but that is a dramatic difference and furthers my concern that this property...
Read moreThis has to be one of the coolest hostels i have been to. The design is top notch with every single item branded with their flair. It is a skeleton theme with touches of wresting and skating. The color scheme, lighting, and clean art is what made it great for me. Even things like their vending machines and wall labels have this theme which makes the entire place a experience.
We ended up getting the private room with the bath/hottub. Just like the main areas the room is well designed and well lit with warm lighting and the Bathtub is a great touch. It does take a bit to fill so we never filled it up much and it doesn't get too warm but it has its privacy and a good view with plenty of space. The doors to the outside are really noise proof to the point that I was always really surprised how loud outside was every time I opened them.
The room comes with complimentary drinks in their mini fridge as well which is always a great addition. The beds were clean and comfy with enough room for a family though we only used one of the bed. The staff was pretty friendly as well and are around pretty much all the time. There is a main area for socializing as well as an upstairs for hammocking. It may have just been that we didn't spend much time there but I didn't see to many people in these areas.
The location is not in the center of downtown (or at least the spot we spent most our time) so it does take a bit of a ride to go most places but it has some good options around as well.
Overall a phenomenal hostel that I would go back to in...
