We stayed in town for the Grito, our Independence Day celebration, which was truly unforgettable. This hotel was the perfect location, allowing us to drop in and rest up when necessary, in order to maximize our experience! ||||Sadly neglected, this was once a pretty good hotel. The restaurant is dark and festooned with For Rent signs, the lobby very dated in acres of faux wood paneling, but clean and brightly lit for all that.||||Staff is tired but accommodating. If you want an extra blanket or pillow, ask as soon as you arrive as they lock 'em up when the housekeepers go home! Good security, night staff to let you in if you come home late.||||Teeny elevator works fine, and the central courtyard is truly magical with high brightly lit space and each floor has its unexpected special touches, like koi in their tiled pond on 2 and an old out of service wooden bar on 3. ||||In the room, badly cast hundred pound gigantic plaster gilded medallions are the featured decor, along with a tiled floor lifting in many places and a small desk and chair combo which would be perfect for interrogation facing the door behind the bed. The vibe is 70s Vegas with splendor way long past date. Particularly loved the Kimberly Clark Professional toilet paper dispenser that goes WOOOOWHWOOOIIIIIIR when you pull a few sheets... we predispensed a bunch to avoid having this happen in the still of the night. This is perfectly paired with a KC soap dispenser with a constantly blinking light situated directly across from the bed. Mmm.||||Wow. What else can you say? With even a small investment in chisels and paint, a few throw rugs, this room could be quite pleasant. With a larger investment this could again be a very special hotel. Abandonment is the theme.||||CLEAN, QUIET interior courtyard, good quality of rest, decent bed, really everything you need, the the price is right.||||Lots of great options for eating right across the street. ...
Read moreFirst I ventured to this hotel because my original Hotel Principado Zona Rosa could not find my reservation and did not want to honor my original price quote. Thank god for that since I found a hidden gem within the historical district in Mexico City. As for Hotel Principado I would not stay there again even if they offered a free stay. Hotel Casa de Luna not only was located blocks away from the Zocalo and easy access to public transportation but right in front I was able to have Tacos al Pastor that I so wanted to eat. Casa de luna was probably one of the cleanest hotels I've ever encountered in my travels through Mexico. I rated it 4 stars only because there is no WIFI available at this time, even though they assured me they were trying to get it fixed. With no WIFI I went to some of the local restaurants nearby to access the internet.||The rooms were spacious and the room rate extremely low considering how nice the hotel is. If you are lloking for a secure nearby hotel to historical district you can't go wrong with Hotel Casa de Luna. When needing local travel information on how to get anywhere and inexpensive the front desk personnel were very helpful. If I travel again to Mexico City Hotel Casa de Luna will be my...
Read moreI arrived in Mexico City on a Saturday without a reservation and went to four different hotels which were all full until I came upon La Casa de la Luna. The hotel is located in a beautiful colonial era building in the heart of the Centro Historico. I got a very good rate on my single room. The room was large, clean and attractive and was located on the top floor. The open, garden like courtyards on each floor provide plenty of natural light and fresh air. There was plenty of hot water and the wifi worked well. There is a restaurant on the ground floor which serves a delicious breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. The hotel is very well located within walking distance of all the sights in the Centro. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased by this find and I will most certainly stay here on my next visit to...
