I Travel to CDMX all the time, I am well familiar with the local restaurants in the surrounding such as Polanco and La condesa to name a few. The experience at Fonico is by far the worst I’ve ever had in CDMX. The service we received from our Waitress Alejandra was egregious. The place was busy and vibing, we were excited. Specially since they have 2 placards in the front desk stating that they are top 50 restaurants in North America. Along with the Restuarant being viral on tik tok. Upon ordering our first round of drinks, it took nearly 45 minutes to get our drinks. Alejandra kept making passes asking if we were ready to order food. We replied that we weren’t hungry at the time and that we were going to get some drinks first. As she quickly replied this is a restaurant service and it is mandatory that you consume food. My reply was for Alejandra to show me a policy stating that ordering food was mandatory. I told her if that’s the case cancel my order since it’s been 45 minutes and we haven’t received our drinks. I told her that the surrounding tables has no problem receiving their drinks. It seemed as if they were holding our drinks until we ordered food. We asked to see the wine/Champagne menu. The look on Alejandra’s face seemed as if we could not afford it. She clearly saw that I was upset by now. The reason we were there to begin with was a birthday celebration. Which was ruined by the horrible service of our waitress Alejandra. It is the first and the last time I ever set foot in Fónico. Which is a shame because we were looking for a restaurant to host our annual business meeting which we had them in mind. Once we paid for our check she had the audacity to ask for tip. She should be ashamed of herself. Or course we left her no tip. I didn’t complain because you can tell the manager on board was aware of what was happening. Because he checked in at several tables except ours. We never thought we would be classified at an establishment...
Read moreIt's a shame to see such potential for greatness in the kitchen, only to be let down by the lack of proper service.
The food here is exceptional, the flavors and presentation are on point, except for the meat which was a significant let down. With an expectation of eating great Sonora quality meat, it was as chewy as carton from HomeDepot.
The service is absolutely unacceptable.
It's as if the front of house doesn't understand the importance of treating every guest with the utmost respect and professionalism.
The staff needs to be properly trained, and the manager needs to step up and ensure that their guests are getting the full dining experience.
We could live with 1 main dish was delivered after every other guest were done with their main dish.
Or the fact that a pasta dish for a 3 years old was as expensive as adult main dishes.
However, it is unacceptable when the waiter mess up the drink order, and have to force the guest to take it - since this was not what was ordered. Take accountability for the mistake.
Or the fact that they promise complimentary when they dropped an entire butter sauce on one of the guest - and we never got it. Don’t promise anything you can’t deliver a simple apology would have been enough!
Or the fact that the bill had to be revised 4 times, because of wrong content, and yet they charged us for the “complimentary” dessert they offered, yet we never got, due to the accident.
This restaurant has the potential to be a star in the culinary world, but unless they get their service in order, it will be nothing...
Read moreI enjoyed all the food here, but I am giving it 4 stars mostly because of the price. I had more elevated dinners for less at other places in CDMX.
If the dishes I tried are indicative of the chefs' other food here, then expect bold flavors that work but just lack a bit of the subtitles and balance of other highend food in cdmx. Not to say the bold flavors are bad, i enjoyed everything. It's just a different approach.
The fired chicken appetizer was very good. It might be best to share as, toward the end, the richness really built on itself.
The catch of the day was good, but i dont think it came with the lemongrass foam it mentioned. It tasted more like lime or yuzu and was very pronounced. There were moments this dish came together, but the elements generally felt distinct. I'd probably try another main dish if I ever went back
The tres leche desert was very good. I'd highly recommend it.
The passion fruit salsa they serve at the start is soo good.
The Mezcal I tried here was good but also felt a bit overpriced for what it was.
In general, this felt like a place where a lot of business dinners happen. The interior was nice but leaning toward a bit pretentious. My waitress was amazing and very...
