Sushido — Restaurant in Oaxaca

We are from Australia, and on our last night discovered this hidden gem away from the Main Street. We were greeted by Maria, and the chef even came out to explain the specials to us. After expressing we were after fresh fish, Maria recommended the combo sushi platter for 550peso, it was incredibly tasty and a good variety of fish and types of rolls, sauces, ginger and wasabi. We were prepared to perhaps need another meal after the platter, however the serving size was very generous and left very satisfied. The fish was so fresh and we could see the kitchen and how much the chefs cared. We paired it with two glasses of wine each which was of very good quality. Our bill was cheap for the amount we ate and drank; 1000peso. We were more then happy to give a generous tip due to service and food quality. The overall rating is due to sushi quality and cost, the service was great, the atmosphere was nice and the location was convenient.

We ordered the “Kombo” to share between the two of us, which comes with 6 aranchinis, 6 nigiri and then 20 mixed pieces.

The fried fish aranchinis were very good, however that’s where the praise for the food ends.

All sushi rolls were basically the same thing, consisting of 4 ingredients: avocado, shrimp, cream cheese and tuna/salmon. Sometimes the fish would be inside, and sometimes it would be on top, but each roll tasted the exact same. The quality of the fish was medium.

The raving reviews of the sushi here on google really threw us off, and maybe we had too high of expectations going into it— but we were disappointed. The ginger and wasabi was good, but none of the 3 different soy sauces actually tasted...
