Ceviche Corazón — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

I don’t like to leave bad reviews but unfortunately, sometimes they’re warranted.

I’ll try to keep this short.

My first visit was on Dec. 31 around 1 pm. They were busy but there were a few open tables. I get seated, waiter brings the menu, I order breakfast and a juice. Waiter comes back about 15 minutes later and tells me they’re no longer serving breakfast. Ok no problem. I need to look at the menu again because I was set on breakfast.

Server comes back about 15 minutes later, I order 2 tacos and cancel the drink. 30 minutes or so passes and I’m getting hangry at this point… it’s been an hour and I was hungry when I arrived.

Another server asks me if everything is ok and I tell him that I’m still waiting for my food. Food comes out about 10 minutes later. Original server comes by to ask if everything is ok and if I want salsa for my tacos. I say yes.

In the mean time, a table of 2 sits down beside me. The server came to their table 3 different times and here I am on my last 2 bites of taco and still no salsa.🫤

I finish my food and go to the server station and ask for the bill. He gives me the bill and has added propina!

At this point, now I’m angry. I ask him why there’s propina on the bill and he tries to tell me it’s optional. Ok then why is it on the bill?! And what exactly am I tipping you for?! Also… I’m well aware that adding propina to the bill is actually illegal…

I give him 500 for my 80 bill and wait for change. They don’t have change and end up giving me the meal for free! I mean, I’m not mad at free food but the entire experience was not good.

2 weeks later (today) I’m in the area, hungry and thought I’d give them another chance (I don’t know why) They’re pretty busy and I end up sitting at the bar to get away from the loud live music playing out front. I ordered a veggie quesadilla and fries.

While I’m waiting for my food, I’m watching 3 service staff share a bag of cheesies and not one of them is washing their hands before grabbing food off the pass and bring it to customers. One of the servers did use some hand sanitizer and then go right back into the bag of chips. The dishwasher is also in the back licking his fingers. 🤢

By now I’ve lost my appetite. My food comes out and and both the fries and quesadilla are dripping with grease. My stomach is actually hurting right now from the grease as I write this.

Thankfully I have exact cash for the bill and just put it under my plate and leave. Because what I’m not about to do is go back and forth with y’all about the propina. I walked right past the server on the way out and he didn’t even notice.

I mean there must be something good about this place as they seem to be pretty busy but unfortunately both of my experiences eating here...

Tacos were pretty good. I enjoyed the steak and shrimp tempura and my husband got the nacho taco. Unfortunately it ended up being a very stressful experience.

There was a table behind us with a very loud and aggressive dog. It was loudly barking at every passing dog and also at their owners for attention. They didn't attempt to quiet the dog at all and the waitstaff did nothing.

An elderly couple near us complained numerous times and the dog owner actually threatened the elderly couple. It became very tense and the waitstaff were nowhere to be seen. The elderly couple just left. The dog continued to be antagonistic and got worse when another patron sat near us with her dog. There was almost a fight between the dogs right by our table!!

At this point, we were still waiting for our taco. I complained when I paid the bill, and the waiter simply said, what could I do? You could ask them to control their dog or leave!

Very disappointing experience. I will definitely not return. You can get just as good tacos almost anywhere else with no dog barking and...

I walked by this place a couple times and saw that it had wonderful reviews online. I knew I had to try it while I'm in Playa. After a long day at the beach I decided to take a walk and have dinner here.

All the employees who work here are super nice and friendly!!!

I ended up getting the ceviche mixto and a fish tempura taco. Both were wonderful! I’ve tasted a lot of ceviche in Playa and the ceviche here has to be top 3!!! The fish tempura taco was also great!!! Yum yum!!!

Try their spicy salsa!!!! So good, enough spice to give your meal a kick but not too spicy!!
