What a wonderful place, 5-star all around! My friends threw me a birthday brunch on Sunday, 13 Nov and Bianca and the staff were incredibly accommodating and busted their butts to take care of our large party while running the rest of the restaurant. For that, I am so grateful. It was the best experience. Friendly, attentive service is worth the 5-star rating alone, but then the food! It's outstanding! They have a superb menu with a fantastic breakfast/brunch selection from chilaquiles to eggs benedict to egg sandwiches to avocado toast with a poached egg...everyone at the table was impressed and raving about their food. The coffee is high quality and delicious, and they have fresh juices and a great overall variety to suit any taste.

I'm so glad Gran Café is in my neighborhood. Not only will I be back and highly recommend it, but I stop by on my walks sometimes and get an iced coffee or other espresso drink sometimes and Miriam at the counter (also in my photos!) is so friendly and lovely to chat with. It's like that "neighborhood place you look forward to going to!" Love it!...

We stopped in for breakfast this morning thinking it was such a beautiful place. Everyone's food looked delicious. I ordered the chilaquiles rojos and got chilaquiles verdes that were sitting in the window for a long time (so long that my egg yolks were scabbed over) and my husband got his dish a long time later. We ordered an orange juice and pan dulce that never showed up. I asked for the pan dulce, as it is included with my breakfast on the menu, and when I received it it was very stale (old) and very chewy with no flavor. The cafe americano was really good, and the total for the bill was not really worth making a fuss over. The server was clearly overwhelmed as it was a busy Saturday morning, but the owner sat at a table the entire time and didn't offer to help at all. I felt bad for the server as he seemed to be struggling to keep up/remember orders. Overall it is a beautiful space and I wish it was worth going back to but I recommend to try any of the other gorgeous local places that offer nice service and...

Ordered and paid for 2 coffees to go. Was told it would be 5 minutes. As we were on vacation and had 15 minutes to kill, my wife and I took a seat at one of the tables and waited for our coffees. After patiently waiting for 25 minutes, I asked the waitress when our coffees would be ready, she replied that our coffees would be next. Another 5 minutes passed and still no coffees. I went back to the waitress and asked how much longer, she looked at the barista and he replied that there were two orders before ours. At that time I asked that they cancel our order and give my 150 MXN pesos ($9 USD) back. They refused and said I would have to wait for my coffees. Out of frustration, we left with no coffees and no money back. Absolutely disgusting customer service. Such short sighted behavior on their part as they lost our business for the rest of our stay in...

I was very disappointed with the level of service and the quality of the food/drink. When I arrived, it was a bit busy, but no one greeted me so I sat myself. After sitting for at least 5 minutes and still not being greeted, I had to flag down a waiter. My table never got cleaned. What I chose to eat wasn’t available, so I ordered the omelette per the waiter’s suggestion. I received my jugo verde which came in a very small glass with ice, and the flavor wasn’t impressive. My food comes. The waiter doesn’t bring silverware. After waiting again, the couple next to me tells the waiter that I am without silverware, since I was barely being paid any attention. The omelette was small, dry, and did not taste very good. In my 9 months of living in PDC, this is one of my worst dining experiences by far. Paid 200 pesos and left unsatisfied.

If you head north on 5th avenue playa del Carmen away from the ferry terminal and Portal Maya Statue. You'll find a less touristy area of 5th 5th avenue where the crowd dies down a bit here you're going to find multiple wider coffee shops and restaurants like Gran Cafe de la Avenida. We sat outside on the sidewalk with plenty of shade, water bowls for dogs. The kind wait service served us at our table. We purchased a mocha and a latte where we sat and enjoyed our cups of coffee. The restaurant also offers a nice clean bathroom for customer use. I would definitely visit again.
