Sushi "n" Raw Bar — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

This is quite a bad sushi place to be honest and definitely not what we’d expect from a five star hotel like Hyatt. The salmon and soft shell crabs were fresh but salmon sashimi cut the size of sushi pieces or rolls and we both found several bones in the meat. The spicy tuna roll wasn’t good at all with filling tasting something like cayenne pepper and was a gluey paste with no hint of fresh tuna at all. Wasabi with no taste of real wasabi but rather a texture of flour with water. The service was friendly but wasn’t attentive at all, not once were we asked what we thought about the food. The miso soup was really tasty but at USD 6 for about 1dl (half a cup) totally not worth it, especially considering it’s something that’s usually included even in any upscale sushi restaurant around the globe. We’ve been amazed about everything else at the resort (bartenders in the lounge, housekeeping, poolside service and food) so this was a big disappointment and something definitely needed to be addressed by the resort. Loved the service and sushi. The highlight was that one of the waiters went far and beyond when I asked for some French fries that they didn’t have on the menu. He insisted to go to the restaurant next door on Hyatt premises to get me some French fries, even though I said it’s too much trouble:) sushi were fresh, a bit flimsy but that didn’t matter much to me because they tasted great. One of the rolls they have on the menu has a grasshopper in it! They warned us and we still tried it. The roll was crunchy, we had a good laugh and it was a fun experience. This place is super chill because most people get food in town so if you like a busy restaurant it might not be for you. The view is awesome...

Returned to Sushi'n'raw for the sashimi. Salmon was my favorite and it tasted delicious this time as well. The seaweed salad was probably the best in my life. Their wine selection was not very impressive and the service was really dissapointing. I had to clean my own table from water, ask for the bill multiple times, had to ask for an umbrella to go to the washroom on the rain and so on. I felt I was the server.
