This was our last dinner on our trip to Playa. I literally zoomed out on google maps and closed my eyes and pointed to a spot on the screen and this was what was there. This was the happiest accident I’ve ever made. It’s on a quiet side street, so it was pleasant walking there. The host was wonderful, he explained there was a large party coming in about an hour and because of occupancy limits, he may not be able to seat us. As we were deciding what to do, a table opened up and we were seated. I’m so glad we didn’t miss out on this place. We chose our drinks and the appetizers all sounded so good, we ordered three: bang bang shrimp, the curry chicken rolls and the ahi poke stack. All three were wonderful! Most shrimp we ordered at other places were always overcooked but these were fresh and perfect. There was music playing, but not too loud. It happened to be one of my favorite albums by the Cure from the early 90s and I felt right at home. The decor was fun and kind of kitschy and I loved it. Our server was very attentive and took good care of us. The drinks were the strongest we had the entire week we were there and delicious. I had the “ah caray” and it was the most unique cocktail I’ve ever had. Not sweet like most cocktails, it was actually pleasantly peppery. I liked it so much I had two. We also had the pork belly tacos and they were fresh and delicious too. As if all of this didn’t make it the most perfect evening already, then a band set up and started playing and made it all even better! They played classic rock, Rolling Stones, CCR and they were really good! It quickly became our best experience of the whole week. I just wish we had found it sooner, because we absolutely would have gone back many times. It’s definitely on our list of favorite places to go next time we’re in Playa. It was also our least expensive dinner of the whole week. Highly recommend this place, and that’s saying a lot because my hubby is a bit of a foodie and he absolutely loved it!

I hate being that person but every city I visit I look for a tiki bar and this satisfies that craving for playa del Carmen. Tiny tiki bar is super adorable, they have great Mexican/Hawaiian/Asian bites and they’re pretty affordable. The drinks are pretty good and also reasonably priced. I will say that this place does seem to be 100% a tourist destination. I went two times and it always seemed to be pretty packed. The first time I went they were out of the first three things we asked for and we were told many times we should have made a reservation. Second time we made a reservation and ended up waiting outside for 20 minutes even still. The staff is nice but seems to be small so I completely get that they’re doing the best they can but man they’re really cramming a lot of people in a small place during covid. It’s a cute place and worth a visit but definitely make a reservation and have a couple options for what you might order. Also check out their Facebook page as it seems they post their specials and themed nights there.

Not too bad. Lots of unique things on the menu if you have an asian cuisine craving. We got the ramen, with shrimps, the cantonese pork belly and korean beef tacos, kfc chicken wings, curry chicken rolls, sliders and generals tso chicken. Lots of different flavors here. Loved the tacos! They were a unique blend of two completely different cultures. The KFC chicken is good, the wings were perfectly breaded and the sauce was quite unique. Great attempt at korean style wings. The ramen - for having a vegan broth it was quite good, with the exception that it was quite salty. The sliders had a quite unique neutral flavor, kind of reminded me white castles a little bit. The general tso’s chicken was good, but a bit sweet. I think if they fine tuned the flavors a bit more theyd be spot on.

Terrible service, when we arrived there was nobody at the door to greet us. We waited a little while at the door to see if anybody would approach us and show us to a table, but it never happened (it is important to point our that there was a man sitting at thr bar just turning to look at us every once in a while) we figured we could just go in and take a seat anywhere, the tables are really long and seemed to be shared. When we reached the tables at the back of the restaurant the guy that was sitting at the bar gets up and tells us we couldn't sit there simce those spaces were reserved. Instead of showing us to a table he went back to sit at the bar. Everyone in the restaurant just stared, we went back to the front of the restaurant and looked to seat at the end of a table that was only used by a girl and her mother (we were 4 people and sat 2 on each side in order to peave some space between them and us) There were only 3 stools so my boyfriend turned to the table behind and asked if he could take the unused stool they had at their table, they said it was ok, as soon as he started moving the stool the man sitting at the bar dashes toward him and, using a louder tone than before, tells him he can't take the stool and that he wasn't allowed to move the furniture in the restaurant while taking the stool from him and placing it back where it was. My boyfriend then asked if there would be amybpdy to help us be seated or if we would be asked to leave, the man started to walk away, without offering a solution and said "your waiter will be with you in a moments" later we found out ue was also a waiter there. A few minutes passed and a girl came to greet us and give us the menu, when we asked her for the 4rth stool she said "I don't think i can help you with that, but let me ask" as she was leaving she stopped at the other end of the table and told the mother and daughter that she would move them and separate them from our table so she asked them to get up and pulled the table a foot away from there and she went to sit at the bar next to the other. After more than 7 minutes my boyfriend was just about to loose it with still no seat so he just left the place. 5 minutes after he left our waitress came back to ask if he was going to come back or not amd if we were ready to order, since it was our first timw there we had some questions regarding the drinks in the menu (they do not have common names on there) and she said "read the descriptions" we mentioned there were not any descriptions on the menu amd she came back woth another menu which had descriptions and said she would let us analyze it before taking our order. 10 minutes later she came back we prder 3 drinks and it took them 30 minutes to jave them ready. All the hassle wasn't worth it, the drinks did not taste good, alcohol was watered down, my drink was supposed to be mango flavoured but you could just taste cheap alcohol and cheap ice, not any mango taste in it. We were all really anoyed by the lack of attention and after another 30 minutes when she came back to see if we wanted to order anything to eat we just ordered the bill, my friend was going to pay by card and when he pulls it out the waitress told him "you can't pay by card, to pay by card your bill should be over $200mxn did nobody tell you that?!" Our bill was around $190mxn. So we were all pretty angry by then and we told her she never mentioned that to us and if we would have known since the beggining we wouldn't even had been there, so she ended up accepting the payment...

Worst dinner and drinks experience I've had in 6 months living in playa unfortunately. I wouldn't order any of the food I had again. Service was incompetent to the extent of endangering our wellness. And then the orange haired bartender had a nasty attitude to top it off.

Our waiter, young muscular guy with mid length hair, was trying his best and I think meant well but he was a source of many of our issues. And I speak Spanish so even though our table was ordering in English, I could see behind the scenes.

Worst part of the experience to me was them not understanding that an allergy is something serious. We accidentally ordered something with pineapple for my partner who has a pineapple allergy. Because it was our fault (not paying enough attention), I decided to take that drink for myself and we ordered her a different drink. During this exchange, I mentioned the pineapple allergy to the waiter. When they brought the different drink, it had a huge pineapple garnish on it! We informed the waiter I just told you she has an allergy to pineapple, we can't have this drink. And he must not understand the severity of what an allergy can mean because he first tried to convince us there's no pineapple in the drink when we're looking at a huge garnish of pineapple. Then he took it back and told the bartender in Spanish we need to remove the pineapple. Thankfully my partner was watching and corrected them when they tried to simply remove the pineapple from the drink, and said no no, we need the drink made again completely new.

Another issue: one in four of our table did not receive their food, the order was not even entered. So she didn't eat.

The food we did receive, we ordered probably 6-7 items and only one person said they liked their food (chicken fried rice and a chicken Peri Peri taco). My blackened fish taco tasted like nothing and not particularly fresh, and the fried chicken sandwich (special of the day) was gummy and inedible, we took one bite and left the rest. The crispy beef didn't have a great flavor either. Food pretty expensive for playa as well.

Drinks were not good in my opinion, more like a college bar level of nuance in the drinks, with a tropical vacation twist. I had the Mai Tai and the Painkiller, wouldn't order either again. Mai Tai too strong and Painkiller too sweet. Then there's the Aloha Peach which should just be removed from the menu altogether. (check other reviews, it's nasty. Way too much campari and no

Then the orange haired bartender was rolling her eyes at and about us multiple times throughout the meal. She was probably frustrated with having to remake drinks, but she made us uncomfortable.

Won't be visiting again or...

The reason for the one star has nothing to do with the food, Prices nor location. It has to do with their service in this case their waiters and waitresses. I really love this place but unfortunately yesterday I felt that the service is not so great/friendly to locals or in other words Mexicans. We had a table for 4 people ( yes, all locals ). We order 8 dos xx bottles, ladies night drinks, 1 order of 3 tacos, 3 orders of wings and 2 extra tacos. I felt like we order a nice amount. This bad service started from the moment our tacos arrived, the waitress didn´t bring limes or salsa; didnt even bother asking us if we needed something else. When our wings arrived, again the waitress didnt bother asking us if we needed anything else, They would just drop our food and leave with such an attitude. We felt like we always had to chase them around to order, and everytimes we called them they would ignore us and would go to another table (foreigns). I kinda got fed up since they weren´t coming to us so I had to walk to the counter by the bar just to ask for some NAPKINS!!!! When they would finally come up to us we would order our drinks and they would take a very long time even though the drinks were ready on the bar counter. I think as a waitress it´s courtess, for once you see a customers drink empty, the waitress should come up and ask if the customer needs something else or a refill, but not our case. It was constantly waiting to get their attention even though the restaurant wasnt crazy busy. We would just see the waitresses chatting with customers which is totally find but if theres a table with 4 empty drinks I say ¨take their order!". We felt like we weren

t being taken care of as well as the other customers. It wasn

t just that one waitress it was both of the ladies and one gentleman( not Juan the ower). Everytime we spoke to them they were always so serious, unattentive, and unfriendly. We felt so discriminate. Never has this ever happen yet again the other visits before we would meet up with our foreigner friends. Maybe thats why we werent ignored.

This last visit was a real dissapoinment.

So if you are a Mexican visiting from another state or you come here with out your foreigner friends. Dont expect the same attention or treatment as the other customers. At least thats how we felt.

All I got to say is - ¨El indio burlandose del maya¨

Other than that, we recommend their buffalo wings, Fried rice and...
