My recent visit to a dumpling restaurant, which promised an unforgettable dining experience, unfortunately, turned out to be quite the opposite. Starting with the boiled dumplings ordered by most of our group, they simply did not live up to the hype. Overcooked and lacking the authentic flavor one would expect from such a traditional dish, it left us wondering if steaming might have been the better cooking method to preserve their delicate taste. The quality offered neither justified the price nor lived up to the restaurant's reputed fame, which, in hindsight, seems suspiciously inflated.
The most disappointing aspect of our visit, however, was saved for last. We were led to believe that the restaurant offered vegan dumplings, a key factor in our decision to dine there. To our dismay and disbelief, we discovered that these "vegan" options contained eggs, making them completely unsuitable for anyone following a vegan diet. This lack of attention to dietary needs is unacceptable and shows a concerning disregard for customer welfare and trust.
After this experience, my advice would be to look elsewhere to satisfy your dumpling cravings. Do yourselves a favor and steer clear of this place; there are plenty of other options in town that offer a more authentic and respectful dining experience, catering to a variety of dietary requirements.
Adding to the list of disappointments, the restaurant's atmosphere and service left much to be desired. The place was uncomfortably warm, making our dining experience even less enjoyable. The choice of decor, with its rough, unpolished furniture, posed a literal risk to our well-being, as we found ourselves constantly wary of getting splinters from the unfinished wood. This lack of attention to the physical comfort of customers only detracted further from the overall ambiance.
To compound our dissatisfaction, the service was remarkably poor. Our waitress seemed completely out of her depth, displaying a level of incompetence that was baffling. From getting orders wrong to a lack of basic knowledge about the menu items she was serving, her performance was the cherry on top of an already disappointing visit. It's clear that both the physical environment and the staff training need serious reconsideration if this establishment hopes to improve...
Read moreSmall, very recently opened, but bound to become a place that you will have to line up for, or get lucky enough to get one of the few table. They will definitely need to expand with more tables once they finally take off, which they will, because it is an authentic piece of china. The owner has imported all the needed ingredients to recreate the meals as if you were in china, except its downtown tulum.
Located just off the main avenue, the prices were cheap for food that is not Mexican based cuisine. Various dumplings that were jammed packed full of whatever protein you ordered, and the dumpling sauce was to die for. Both orders of dumplings that were ordered were overstuffed. Also ordered two different soups. Ordered the dumpling soup and noodle soup. Although both soups they could not be more different. The dumpling soup is everything you could hope for from a well seasoned Asian soup. Dark soup base with pork dumplings and many Asian herbs which just made you want to go back for more savory mouthfuls
For the noodles I asked for a medium spice and kind of wish I had a sample beforehand. I am pretty used to a Mexican medium, but this was Chinese standard of “medium” heat. It had me sweating profusely even though it was a mild day. If it’s your first time and you want a little spice, just ask for a mild. That being said the noodles were cooked to perfection, while there was chunks of peanuts also added to the soup. It seemed to be like a sweet and sour based soup, but after the heat it seemed to be just hot hot soup. The only downside was that once the dumplings came out they disappeared just as quick, as it smelled so good and everyone was hungry, so no pictures. Will definitely visit again on any visit to tulum, especially if craving some dumplings, again hands down the...
