Favorite taqueria ever!
My family is from San Diego. We know great Mexican cuisine. We’ve also been vegan for about 5 years (including my 2 20-somethings and a teenager). We know wonderful vegan food. And we love to eat.
I wrote 2 lengthy reviews of this taqueria already and both times they were wiped out before I finished posting. 😠 🤦🏻♂️. As discouraging as that is, I’m writing a third time because we love this place so much and it deserves my respectful and unequivocal recommendation.
This review will be short though because I’m afraid the internet gods are conspiring against me.
El Bajon is amazing — not just for vegan tacos, but for tacos in general. They’re creatively conceived, true to rich Mexican flavor profiles, and constructed with equal parts skill, love, and soul.
The service was superior— quick, friendly and fun. The delicious and inspired salsas and toppings never stopped coming along with our frequent requests for more tacos. Try them all. They’re mindblowingly good.
The price was unbeatable and they were serving fresh horchata and agua de jamaica from the tap on the house!
Don’t miss this awesome experience for your mouth, your heart, and your wallet. If you’re in Quintana Roo, make El Bajon a priority. We can’t...
Read moreI wouldn’t recommend El Bajon Vegan Tacos to anyone in Tulum. The tacos were okay, but they did not have much flavour. We ordered 6 different tacos but none were very stand out. The food did come quickly. Overall the place is very run down and a bit unclean.
We walked past a few times and every day the opening / closing time was different, so not very reliable.
Mostly; I would avoid because the owner is very rude - he treated us badly, and it is clear he did not want tourists or people visiting in his restaurant - we spoke Spanish (badly) but were friendly and polite, and were met by him being rude and unhelpful.
He did not give us a receipt for our food - so I don’t know how much he charged.
There are much better places in Tulum for Vegan food where they treat you well, are helpful and are happy to have your custom in their restaurant.
If you don’t like tourists, don’t open a restaurant in...
Read moreA quaint little place that offers a bunch of unique flavours. The day’s drink was Dragonfruit water. One serving is 30 Pesos which also gives you 3 refills. The serving size is small though.
I ordered a bunch of Tacos - Pastor, Yaqita Pibil, Red Chorizo, Green Chorizo, Carnitas. All were delicious although the Yaqita Pibil was my favourite. The Pastor and Yaquita Pibil are made from Jackfruit.
The hot sauces I found were really mild and flavourful. They are also clearly marked in English and Spanish on how spicy each sauce is. The green sauce was supposed to be the spiciest but it was flavourful with a kick. Milder than many other places I’ve eaten in Cancun.
Really happy to have eaten at this restaurant and would recommend it. The ambience is not the most comfortable. The music was loud and furniture not most comfortable but the taste of the tacos I feel more than makes...
