La Gloria de Don Pepe — Restaurant in Quintana Roo

Came to this place because of Lonely Planet recommendation, and I am really very disappointed.

This place was advertised as being good for its tapas and paella. The tapas were decent, the paella a COMPLETE FAIL: rice burnt, shrimp and clams over cooked and dead mussels.

The service was very low as well. The servers were distracted and so was the owner. They took 20 minutes for a bottle of water. After telling them that the paella was a fail, they didn’t budge, no consideration of the costumer feedback.

Moreover they don’t even have a bathroom, you basically need to walk in the first floor of a hostel next door.

Definitely the worst experience I had in Tulum. Waste of time and money. I don’t recommend this...

Service is great and the restaurant really makes you feel like you are in Spain again. They have outdoor seating right by the street. The kitchen is open so you can peer in to see your food cooking. We ordered the seafood paella which takes about 40 mins to cook at about 250 pp and you can only order this with a minimum of 2 people. So I would suggest to order first and the other stuff can be ordered later. Seafood paella was subpar because the rice was burnt, not charred. but considering we were in Mexico - it was a nice taste. Consumer cheating is not fair. The menu says a paella costs 260. I imagined it shoul be a small, individual portion. I wanted to order one and my friend something different. The waitress explains that a paella is actually for two. So we ordered just one paella for us two. The bill showed 520 and not 260. But this is not what the menu says, and it is not what the waitress explains, that this plate is made for two but the given price is just for one. Please be fair and correct this cheating mechanism for future customers. The overall cost-benefit is good compared with Tulum beaches, the paella is good but not outstanding, lacking on special flavours, and the waitresses...
