Nestled amidst lush greenery, Orchid Hotel in Tulum strikes a lovely balance between natural charm and modern comfort. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with a delightful welcome drink, the tone for a relaxing retreat was set. The hotel's unique architecture is a visual treat, harmonizing beautifully with its peaceful surroundings, yet it's conveniently walkable to the city's vibrant heart. The staff at Orchid Hotel deserves a special mention for their friendly and attentive service, always on hand to help and enhance our stay. Our room was a sanctuary of space and comfort, featuring a large, cozy bed that was perfect for restful nights. The spacious shower and the private outdoor bathtub added a touch of luxury, though the need for staff intervention to empty the tub did slightly limit our spontaneity. A standout feature was the complimentary access to the hotel’s exclusive beach club, enhancing our experience with lovely seaside relaxation options. On the downside, we faced a couple of hitches. There was an unpleasant odor from the toilet that was hard to ignore, and the breakfast—despite its hefty price tag—was underwhelming in both variety and flavor. Despite these issues, the positives of Orchid Hotel overshadow the negatives. Its tranquil location, combined with the generous room amenities, friendly service, and added beach club access, makes it a place I would happily recommend for a serene getaway in Tulum.

Stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The receptionists were super nice and made us feel welcome even though our Spanish wasn’t great. The room is amazing, felt very homely. The bed is amazing, I don’t think I’ve ever slept better; it is definitely the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in. The bathroom is also great with lots of character with the rock sinks and a massive shower, the hot water was also fast and warm. The outside bath was a little dirty (spiders, bugs and leaves) but it is an outside bath so it was expected. The hot water in the bath was also great, and it was a very relaxing experience lounging around in it. The TV in the room was also a smart tv, with Amazon prime etc. Which we definitely made use of. The bar upstairs is also very well set with a pool on the second floor as well. We didn’t eat there but the atmosphere was very nice. The only thing my girlfriend and I would recommend is that the hotel have a shuttle service to and from the Orchid Beach House; as if you do not have your own transport, the walk is very hot and there is no footpath (Avenida Kukulcán). Overall would definitely stay here again.

After viewing the photos of this place and reading the reviews we were very excited to stay here. Overall, it did not meet the standards for the price. Rooms: We got the garden suit and it was okay. The worst was we had zero hot water in our unit. We had told staff on multiple occasions and at one point they even sent someone to fix it for us but it did not happen. Showers were cold and I was unable to wash my hair all 4 nights here. The ceiling kept dropping dirt or concrete into our bed throughout the night. Sometimes large pieces that actually woke you from your sleep. Also we had construction going on next to our room the whole time in the hotel as they are building out another little unit. Staff: Very friendly and accommodating when they could be. Food/ Drink: Overpriced! Coming from the SF Bay Area we were extremely surprised to see that prices were almost the same here for cocktails as they are where we live. Definitely not worth it. I recommend: spider sushi, Rossina’s, totem, or los morres if you are staying in this area which is a short walk from the place. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this place.

So I was so excited to stay here after reading reviews and I felt in love with the pictures and the jungle vibe. I checked in on time and was greeted by nice lady and man . They took our things to the room and we checked in . Once we went in the room it was beautiful and decor was nice . In the bathroom, where the toilet was , and by the shower I seen a couple ants and a spider or two. I didn’t think too much about it because of The jungle area . So I took a nap because I was tired . It was my fiancé bday so we planned to go out that night . So after a hour nap , I got up to take a shower and once I got in . I seen a few more ants and there was no hot water So we took cold showers . At this time the front desk was closed and it was late so we decided to wait until the morning. Once we got back From dinner things took a turn for the worse. We walked in the room , there was a lizard that ran across the floor . Ok no problem. Went in the bathroom There were Ants crawling up the wall , and all over our toiletries . They were the huge ants too. I was scared to use the bathroom because because it was too overwhelming. So I went to sleep with an full bladder . Even worse we could not sleep because there were ants in the bed . We spent most of the night sweeping them off the bed and our belongings. My fiancé has an allergic reaction to ants and her feet began to swell from bites . That morning we messaged through what’s app and asked to come speak with someone. At the front desk we expressed our concerns to the nice lady and she apologized and offered breakfast for the inconvenience. She said she understands how this could be upsetting . She stated she would have to speak with her manager to approve a room change . We literally waited an hour outside and still no response from manager . She stated she was waiting for him to message her back . So one of our friends who stayed at the hotel around the corner offered for us to come there and shower because our hotel was full of ants. . At this point we were frustrated and asked for a refund for the 3 nights we didn’t stay there. 3 hours later Still no response from manager on neither refund or room change so we decided to just take luggage and continue our plans for the day . The hotel where my friend stated owner offered us a room for one night because he felt sorry for us . 5 hours later after no response I decided to message with update and the lady said the manager finally responded and said he could not approve a refund but can give us another room. When I asked why ?and spoke about pictures. She asked for me to send to her . I sent to her and heard nothing else 3...

Disastrous Experience at a So-Called "5-Star Hotel" in Tulum

I recently stayed at this hotel, which claims to be a 5-star establishment, and I can confidently say it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the service was non-existent. There was no drinking water in our room, which we discovered after returning from an overpriced, mediocre dinner at their restaurant (where $12 got us 5 measly potato wedges). When we asked for water, the reception told us to fetch bottles from our room and bring them to the restaurant for refills—except there were no bottles in the room. When we informed them, their response was essentially "too bad, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow or walk to a nearby 7-Eleven to buy water yourself." Absolutely ridiculous for a hotel that charges premium prices.

Despite staying for three days, they never once placed water bottles in our room. To make matters worse, the bathroom was a nightmare. It lacked an exhaust fan, leading to unbearable moisture levels and even some areas in the bath that looked like mold.

The final straw was on our last day when we saw a giant rat in the living room. We managed to capture it on video and sent it to the hotel reception. Their response? Crickets. No acknowledgment, no apology, no action taken.

This place is a complete joke, masquerading as a luxury hotel but delivering subpar Airbnb-level experiences. The management clearly doesn’t care about their guests or maintaining even basic standards.
