My husband and I visited Tulum and wanted to stay the first few days in downtown. We booked Mamazul and it’s a small boutique hotel where they have 6 rooms. We stayed in the Master King Tepeztate! The only issue we had was arriving to the hotel, we drove about 10 minutes going in circles because we could not find it. The hotel is inside a pathway and you have to park infront or on the side of Niik Hotel. It would be helpful for future guests to have a sign somewhere so they don’t have the same issue we had. The room was great, it comes with AC and a TV. The bathroom window was a little too open as it is see through. The walk-in shower was great, water does tend to get messy and get the floor wet. Breakfast is complimentary and tasted authentic and fresh. When you get to the room, there are a flight of stairs so be prepared for that if you have lots of luggage. If your out and about past 11pm they do close the hotel, but there’s a staff member in the lobby who will open door for you. If you keep going upstairs, you will find an amazing rooftop pool with great WIFI. It’s very relaxing and you get some amazing views. You can choose to have dinner there or there’s restaurants around within walking distance. The only issue I had was when I booked, they did charge the full amount. I arrived thinking everything was great but upon check in they said they returned the money and I had to pay the full balance. This obviously took a turn as far as budgeting for Tulum but I paid it. Overall this is my review for Mamazul and hope it helps others! Would recommend this beautiful...

Why? -only place to do mezcal tastings of ones that you can’t find at the grocery store -staff is friendly and so knowledgeable -custom mezcal tastings and food pairings -create your own mezcal cocktails -food is DELICIOUS and seasonal
We have been here for dinner twice now because it was so fun and plan to go back for lunch to try their tacos then!
Dinner food we tried: short rib, sea bass, flank steak, roasted chicken, elote, ravioli, and fettuccini. Perfect blend of Mexican and Italian deliciousness.
The mezcal: seriously the BEST! You can make a custom tasting or get one of their preset tastings (we did a preset the first night to figure out what we liked and then did custom on the next time we returned). They have house brand and also lots of other artisanal and ancestral bottles from all over Mexico. They sell their house brand mezcal but also sometimes have extra of the other ones and if so will let you purchase those as well. If you’re more into mezcal cocktails than straight mezcal they also have that! Delicious and refreshing- plus you can make your own mezcalita (choose your juice mixer and topping)- yum!
If you happen to be lucky enough to be there when the owner is there sit at the bar and learn from him! Although you can’t go wrong with any of the people working there- they all know so much and are passionate about mezcal.
Bottom line: this place is a MUST...
Read moreSo disappointed in this place! Read all of the excellent reviews so was really excited to try it especially because I LOVE mezcal. The service was subpar at best. It took 15 minutes before anyone even came over to us and it’s a pretty small restaurant. When they did come over they were extremely scattered. For example, I kept asking for a mezcal menu (3 times!) because I wanted to do mezcal pairings with my food and I never got it until I went up to the bar myself and took it (even though every time I asked they said they would bring it to me). Food took forever to come as well. For food, we tried lots and it was all average / below average at best. For paying US prices, I would expect amazing food like we have had at other places in Tulum. We got octopus (over done), fettuccine (not memorable), esquire (not really sweet corn and was doing too much), grilled fish (not great flavor) and short rib (overdone). The only redeeming thing about this place was the drinks were good and the presentation of the food was pretty. I would recommend coming here for happy hour, but nothing else. It’s expensive and also out of the way so you can’t easily go somewhere else before / after. Save your money and try another restaurants in the area, there are so...
