Wonderful evening in Tulum at SushiLab, a restaurant focused on sushi.
Impeccable welcome from the owner herself who talked us through her menu and suggestions.
First course started with a flawless sashimi/tiradito with 3 different fishes of the highest quality. But the standout of this dish is the seasoning which was flawless and really elevated the dish to the next level. Bravo 👏
Next came the margaritas at a steady rate and we loved the taste all evening long. The setting is also notable within the garden of a hotel, very zen and relaxing, with thoughtful lighting to create atmosphere.
Then the main event where the 2 maki rolls : generous portions very well plated and presented, well seasoned rice and again high quality fish to taste. We really loved how nothing overpowered and was brought as a whole. Again, the chef surpassed himself.
We wish we had an equally good sushi place in our hometown, but we don’t.
Highly recommended. $1,900 MXN pesos.

This was the first (hopefully the last) place that felt unwelcome the moment I walked in. I had rude treatment. Maybe not a big fan of American? Or made just me? I wonder…
Anyways fish was very fresh. No complaints. Very few sashimi and nigiri options. More tartar, bowls, tacos etc.
Variety of menus I guess it’s okay…. To me the name of the restaurant doesn’t click with the menus but hey… Alcohol options terrible. No sake whatsoever to pair with the sushi. No details on beer or wine options. Lots of hard liquor. Dessert only says “chef’s choice”…..
Oh at last this restaurant seems to accept smokers. Guy behind me was smoking his heart out it was okay for the server. At least have a little courtesy to smoke where no...

The staff is impeccable: attentive, friendly, and always smiling, making guests feel truly cared for.
And the food? Simply outstanding. Don’t be misled by the name, which might make you think it’s all about Japanese cuisine. I had the pleasure of trying both the “Ume Roll” (a salmon roll topped with crunchy almonds) and the “Tacos de Pulpo” (with handmade tortillas). Both were superb! You can clearly feel the passion and love that goes into every dish.
A must-visit if you’re in Tulum Pueblo. Highly...
