Takeout Service FailureS Pork Belly doesn’t take reservations, so you are limited to first come first serve seating, take out or delivery. We have eaten there several times, not always at a nice table, but the food has always been good. Depending on what floor we were on, the service has always been inconsistent. This past Sunday night, we were tired, wanted a stress free meal and didn’t feel like taking our chances on a table or their spotty service, so we ordered takeout. We placed the order for two at about 5:10pm and they told us the order would be ready by 5:40pm. We sent someone to pick our order for two up at the designated time, only to learn that the order was not even prepared! At that point they told the driver it would be another 20’. We would need to pay the original fee to the driver and then an additional fee to wait until it was ready, due to PorkBelly’s error. In all, we paid the driver for 70’. When we tried to call the restaurant for the next 50’ we received a busy signal and concluded that they simply took the phone off the hook, leaving customers in the blind. The order was finally out at 6:27pm, 70’ AFTER the order was placed. This is not the first time we have had to wait an exorbitant amount of time to receive our food, even in the restaurant. By the time it was all said and done, we paid almost as much for the delivery as the meal and it turned out to be a long, drawn out, stressful ordeal. It appears that Pork Belly has abdicated any responsibility for customer service. Their AWFUL service made dinner a very frustrating experience. Unless the management contacts us and make this right, we will never return and will tell ALL of our friends about the awful service we received here. Add: Owners replied below with email address requesting we contact them. We did so immediately and just like when we phoned them, there is no response. The email address is just an attempt to make readers think they wanted to right this, but they are just putting up...
Read moreLet me start by saying: some restaurants strive to be good, some restaurants strive for perfection, and some restaurants… it just comes naturally to them. In my opinion, Pork Belly in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico is something special.
I’ve tried several items on the menu — the brisket, the pastrami — and they were okay, but the dish that absolutely blew me away was the Roasted Chicken Breast. Seasoned with paprika and rosemary, served with potatoes, carrots, and green beans sautéed in butter, and then bathed in a rich orange reduction — this dish is pure magic. The chicken is so tender and juicy it practically melts in your mouth, and the flavors are perfectly balanced: savory, buttery vegetables with that hint of bright citrus. It’s the kind of dish I could never pull off in my own kitchen — it’s that good.
The restaurant itself is clean and nicely presented, though I’ll admit the chairs could be more comfortable. The service is top-notch — professional, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which makes the whole dining experience even better.
If you’re visiting San Miguel de Allende and want one of the best chicken dishes you’ll find anywhere, Pork Belly’s Roasted Chicken Breast is a must-try. It’s exceptional, memorable, and worth coming...
Read moreWe have a delicious meal at Pork Belly. Our first experience here. Pulled pork sandwich and pastrami sandwiches both delicious with crispy fries. However I do have one concern. I ordered a glass of savignon blanc which was listed on the menu for 120 pesos. The waitress asked me if it was ok for it to be the house wine. I said of course. When we received the bill the wine was 250 pesos. When I asked about this I was told the house wine was more expensive. This is not listed anywhere on the menu. My experience in the States is that the house wine is standard wine—nothing special. It seems they are now making their own wine and charging more for it. This is fine but they need to indicate it on the menu so people can choose. I was disappointed they did not offer a discount after speaking to the manager. They did offer an apology and the wine was good. But a heads up would...
