Tropico — Restaurant in Budva

When we arrived and sat down to a table we waited 10 minutes to call over a waiter, they just ignored us, my friend went over to one to politely ask if we could order, but he was just rudely told to sit down and wait.

After another 10 minutes a waiter finally arrived and took our order. While we waited for our drinks to arrive (which took around 15 minutes) an elderly man, who looked like staff, went past us and ran his fingers over my friend's head and shoulder, while singing and speaking to himself or us(??) (presumabely drunk), though we could not understand what he wanted. I'm sure he didn't mean anything bad but that made my friend extremely uncomfortable, and it's not the service you would expect in a pricey restaurant. When the drinks arrived, the bottled Coca-cola my friend ordered (which was incorrect by the way, because he ordered a Cocta, but we didn't bother making a deal out of it) came unopened, and the waiter apologized because he didn't have a bottle opener, and said he would soon come back to open it, only for us to wait for him for 15 minutes, when we finally realized he wasn't coming and we opened it ourselves using a knife.

Then after another one hour the waiter apologized, and told us "the kitchen forgot about our order" and that it will be ready in 2 minutes. Is the whole point of a restaurant not to serve food to customers? I find it hilarious that a restaurant "forgot" to make us the food we ordered. After another 10 minutes we finally got our food, which was mostly okay, nothing extra, except for my friend who got his steak overcooked.

The icing on the cake was that when the waiter came to us, so we could pay, we asked if we could split the bill 4 ways, and each pay for our own food (either with card or cash), to which he rudely replied "no, one table, one check" (his exact words). I'm sorry, I didn't realise that appearently even such a minor thing to ask for was too much..

The cherry on top was that he told us that we need to pay an extra 10 euros alongside the 93 euros written on the check, as a "service fee" which was never mentioned neither on the menu or by our waiter until that point (and was not written on the check). We payed it without asking further quetions, but I find this very predatory, especially with the already high prices, and considering the "service" we payed for was lacking in every single way.

I wanted to like this restaurant, especially after reading the good reviews, and I tried to be patient, because I understand that the staff are tired etc... but I simply cannot recommend waiting borderline 2 hours for overpriced, mediocre food.

It was just overall an unpleasent experience which I cannot recommend, especially if you're a tourist who doesn't speak serbian (I'm pretty sure they are closet racists, mainly towards Hungarian people, though it might just be a crazy coincidence that us, speaking Hungarian, got such horrible service at "Budva's best restaurant").

It's truly a shame. Had I known our experience would turn out like this, I wouldn't have bothered and just ordered a gyros from somewhere for a third of the price, and bought 3 packs of cigarettes with the rest of...

🇷🇸 Kao dugogodišnji posetilac Budve, moram da podelim svoje oduševljenje Restoranom Tropico koji se nalazi tik uz more, na Slovenskoj plaži. Hrana je fantastična – sveža riba, savršeno spremljeni specijaliteti i ukus koji se pamti. Posebnu toplinu ovom mestu daje gazdarica Kika sa svojom familijom i timom restorana – šarmantni, srdačni i uvek spremni da vas dočekaju kao najdražeg gosta. Plaža ispred restorana je čista, uređena i prava oaza za odmor. A da sve bude još lepše, tu je i Srđan iz Šapca – mlad gospodin koji svakog dana donosi osmeh, pozitivnu energiju i vedrinu među goste. On se brine da svako uživa – i u suncu, i u piću, i u atmosferi. Tropico nije samo restoran – to je osećaj doma, to je miris mora i zvuk talasa dok večerate ribu na samo par metara od obale. Otvoreni su cele sezone – i danju i noću. Preporučujem od srca svakome ko želi pravo mediteransko iskustvo.

🇬🇧 As someone who visits Budva often, I simply must recommend Restaurant Tropico, located right by the sea on Slovenska Beach. The food is outstanding – fresh fish, perfectly cooked local specialties, and flavors that stay with you. What makes this place even more special is Kika, along with her family and the restaurant team – warm, charming people who welcome you like a dear friend. The beach in front of the restaurant is clean and inviting – a true spot for relaxation. Adding to the charm is Srđan from Šabac, a young gentleman who brings joy and good energy every single day, making sure all guests feel comfortable and happy. Tropico is more than a restaurant – it’s a feeling of home, the scent of the sea, and the sound of waves while you enjoy dinner just steps from the water. Open all season – day and night. From the heart – highly recommended for a true Mediterranean experience. 🇷🇺Как человек, который часто бывает в Будве, я от всей души рекомендую ресторан Tropico, расположенный прямо у моря, на Словенском пляже. Еда здесь восхитительная – свежая рыба, блюда местной кухни и незабываемый вкус. Особую атмосферу создаёт Кика с семьёй и командой ресторана – гостеприимные, доброжелательные люди, которые принимают вас как самых дорогих гостей. Пляж перед рестораном чистый и ухоженный – идеальное место для отдыха. А молодой человек по имени Срджан из города Шабац каждый день приносит радость, улыбки и хорошее настроение, заботясь о каждом госте. Tropico – это больше, чем ресторан. Это – дом у моря, аромат солёного воздуха и шум волн во время ужина у самой воды. Открыт весь сезон – днём и ночью. Рекомендую от души – всем, кто хочет прочувствовать настоящее средиземноморское наслаждение.

🇩🇪 Als jemand, der Budva regelmäßig besucht, möchte ich das Restaurant Tropico direkt am Meer an der Slovenska-Strandpromenade wärmstens empfehlen. Das Essen ist hervorragend – frischer Fisch, regionale Spezialitäten und ein unvergesslicher Geschmack. Besonders wird dieses Restaurant durch Kika mit ihrer Familie und dem Team – herzlich, charmant und immer bereit, jeden Gast wie ein Familienmitglied willkommen zu heißen. Der Strand vor dem Restaurant ist sauber, gepflegt und lädt zum Entspannen ein. Und nicht zu vergessen: Srđan aus Šabac, ein junger Mann, der jeden Tag mit seinem Lächeln und seiner positiven Ausstrahlung für gute Stimmung sorgt und sich liebevoll um alle Gäste kümmert. Tropico ist mehr als nur ein Restaurant – es ist ein Gefühl von Zuhause, der Duft des Meeres und das Rauschen der Wellen beim Abendessen direkt am Wasser. If you are tourists , please don’t go to this restaurant !! Their service was horrible!

When we were there in the afternoon , nobody served us , the restaurant was not busy at all. There’s a man with unhappy face, threw us menus and took our order. I asked could you remember what we just ordered cos it’s quite a lot, and he said yes don’t worry.

Me and my boyfriend we ordered a seafood pasta ,and pizza with two drinks. When he delivered the bill on the table, thank god I checked it, he ordered me seafood platter instead of two meals. I asked him he told me didn’t you just ordered seafood platters? What is that? How could you deceive customers like that? And he ran back print another receipt and didn’t even say sorry.

This is totally unacceptable! And the food was so plain! Seafood pasta was so salty and disgusting! And the pizza’s chicken not fresh as well. So disappointed and don’t know how could this restaurant get 4.5/5? They are pricey too!

If you are tourists, please don’t go to this restaurant! Would never recommend this restaurant!...
