Konoba Scala Santa is located right smack in the centre of an area where the tourist traffic is very high. We normally avoid this kind of restaurant at all cost due to its likelihood of being a tourist trap with exorbitant prices and average/low quality food. However, we were tired and hungry, and the temperature that day was close to 32C! There was a menu on full display at the entrance, so we had a look, and found the prices to be reasonable. A quick check of its review on Google showed this place in the positive light. In addition, the waiter who greeted us, Joseph (I think) was very persuasive and hospitable. We were glad we stopped by at this place, because the food proved to be delicious and very well prepared. We also had the house wine, which was very good. We sat outdoors and were efficiently cooled down by the fans, and attentively served by Joseph. I attach some photos of some of the food we had. We were very happy with our meals, the service and the atmosphere of the konoba.

After strolling through wonderful old town Kotor we were quite a bit hungry. Being at the sea there's lots of restaurants offering fish and / or seafood. This place has some good reviews and also a good number of tables outside on a nice little square. Many items on the menu looked interesting, we couldn't decide on what though. So we ordered a fish/seafood plate for two. A bit of everything on it. Fish, calamari, octopus, shrimp, potatoes with spinach, tomato rice. All the fish and seafood tasted nice and very fresh. Not overly spiced, so you really can taste the fresh product. The rice was a wondeful surprise. Like this country's own take of risotto. Nice, creamy and savory. We were really happy with the food. The staff was a bit cold and unfriendly at first. Improved over the course of the meal though. But still: a nicer welcome would've been nice. On a side note: on lunchtime they will only give you a table outside if you order a meal. Just a drink won't do.

Summary: Fantastic place! Absolute "must go!" in Kotor. We were there twice in two days. Food: We had two starters, the beet root capacio and the muscles. Both were amazing, we cleaned the plate with the muscle sauce with bread because it was so good. Both of us took the octopus with sweet potato mash because it was the recommendation of the waiter. Great recommendation, it had a perfect texture and great flavor. Along the meal we had a fantastic cuvée from the montenegrian winery Patrimonio, which was a superb light dry white wine. Service: The staff is super friendly, the owner herself handles the entrance and seating. The waiters are very attentive to empty plates or glasses and all speak great English. Atmosphere: When it's warm outside you sometimes get live music on the square which adds so much to the Ambiente. On our second day it rained and we sat inside, where it looks like a cozy sailors tavern.

Food was okay, but the hostess was utterly disrespectful. We had asked for a reservation, and they said they were fully booked until Friday. However, once we arrived, there were clearly available tables. At the entrance, there was a hostess who was by far the worst I’ve ever encountered. She was extremely disrespectful and acted in a disgraceful manner.

We asked about availability, and she said no, adding that four tables were already on the waiting list. My girlfriend really wanted to sit at this restaurant, so we decided to wait. We asked when the kitchen would close, and she told us 10:30 p.m. While we were waiting, despite the fact that there were available tables and no one else waiting, she never offered us a table. After 15 minutes, another staff member came over and finally gave us one.

To the restaurant manager: I have been working in the service sector for almost 11 years. What you need to do is fire this disgraceful hostess immediately. If you do that, I believe the rest of the services your restaurant provides would be acceptable. I am ready to provide calendar details to help investigate what was...

I have visited this restaurant several times with family and friends, and it always leaves a great impression. We always choose seafood for both appetizers and main courses, and every time we are delighted. Our favorites include the fish pâté, fish carpaccio, octopus salad, sea fish for the main course, and squid with potatoes and spinach. The freshness of the seafood and the attention to detail in the preparation truly stand out. As an appetizer, we usually order local olives and cheeses, which pair perfectly with the excellent selection of wines from small local wineries—unique options you won’t find in supermarkets. The staff is always friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. During the high tourist season, it’s essential to book a table in advance, as this place is rightfully popular.

P.S. The only suggestion would be to serve the pasta al dente, as it tends to be slightly overcooked.

Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates fresh seafood and a cozy,...

We were walking around in the cold with our toddler, hungry and thirsty, when we found Scala Santa. As soon as I opened the door, I was sold: it was, unusually for most places we'd been to in Kotor in March, warm inside!

We were welcomed in by a gentleman who spoke great English. He gave us a helping hand with our pushchair, and then offered to heat up our daughter's bottle. Very kind of him. He also offered to help us choose our dishes, but my husband had been desperate for octopus since we'd arrived, and I for black risotto, so we had no problems to decide!

My husband is now satisfied and happy to leave Kotor, having finally had his octopus. Who knew, but putting grilled octopus together with pureed sweet potato on the side really does work! Compliments to the chef: he cooked the octopus perfectly! My risotto was also very good.

Finally, we had a cake of the day (a solid chocolate cake) and a Kotor cream cake, which was a bit like a smaller English custard slice, or a Hungarian...
