The 5 star reviews are either fake or these people have no idea about Moroccan food. I went to this place because of these good reviews and I wanted to have shisha - big mistake.

High prices, horrendous food quality and horrible shisha, and not much for the views either except to the neighbours houses.

The people are nice yes but there is nothing else going for this place. 150 Dirham for everything and thats double the price in other places, for example for chicken Tagine the price ranges from 50-90 Dirham. The look/taste itself was the worst we have had in Morocco. Needless to say we only tasted it.

As for shisha, if you ever order shisha and are given the 'quick start' coal, you should know you are in the wrong place!

This is a typical 'tourist trap' place. AVOID!

If you want to have views of Fes, go to Palais de Fes Suites and Spa. The place is expensive (rightly so since its frequented by the rich and celebrities) but you can get a coffee only and enjoy...

My friend and I were lost and being chased by multiple Moroccans shouting “Medina this way! This way closed!” There were so many blocked alleys. And given that we were being idiot tourists, we believed every single person. We ran out of money to give them and It wasn’t until we stumbled across Assala that we were saved.

“BACK YOU BEASTS!” He shouted as he took out a giant leather fly swatter and smacked them each in the face as hard as he could. The hissed and crept back into the shadows.

“Come, follow me”.

We were led up a narrow staircase to the roof with a beautiful view. The food was superb. He had a pet Lion named Fred that loves kiwi.

Anyway, he told us to write a 5 star review, so that’s what we did.

I visited because we saw this restaurant as we walked past. The five of us got a beautiful table on the roof terrace. The owner was really friendly and gave us menus in French, he was happy to help us in English and brought up the food quickly. I had the minced meat pieces in a rich tomato sauce with rice. My friends had vegetarian ravines and couscous royals and loved it! A single plate is 100 MAD, for an extra 50 dirhams you get hot cooked vegetables and plates of little shortbreads containing dates. The mint tea was delicious, and there’s a good selection of cold drinks to enjoy too, all at around 15 MAD. This restaurant is a great place to enjoy views up to the Merinid tombs. Definitely...

Most disappointing meal in Morocco yet. Tiny serving sizes. Limited range that forces you to order three course meal (for 150 MAD), but a tiny sad meal at that. The salad was nice enough to be fair, the kebab was sad and stingy, and then the dessert was just mint tea and a soggy biscuit. The pastilla was the best part (although you could get the same for much cheaper elsewhere). 15MAD per person service charge to add insult to injury. Friendly service, but way overpriced and underdelivered on the meal. (Photo of kebab plate and pastilla)

We stumbled into Assala on a rainy afternoon in Fes, craving a warm cup of Moroccan mint tea and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The owner greeted us with incredible kindness, offering Moroccan biscuits alongside our tea, making us feel right at home. The service was exceptional, and the tea was exactly what we needed to shake off the cold. Inside, the atmosphere was beautifully traditional, with stunning Moroccan décor that added to the experience. If you’re in the area, this spot is definitely worth a visit!

One of my most favourite places. The owner, Anass, is so spectacular and his energy attracts like minded people to enjoy good food, good ambiance and good life - wonderful evenings to sit back and enjoy lovely company with other guests and the host. The set meals are fantastic with a lot of variety and the small team is exceptionally hardworking and mindful. Dine here! The chicken pastilla was a sensation for sweet and savoury - absolutely delicious.
