Palais Mnebhi — Attraction in Fez

Fellow travelers, for those of you who are willing to visit Palace Mnebhi I would like to recount an incident involving the so called owner of this place. I was visiting Fez with friends, wandering the streets of Medina when I saw some people gathering outside a palace ( Mnebhi), some were leaving, others were entering. So out of curiosity I tried to get in that's when I heard someone shouting from the back ordering me to step back. I was stunned so I asked him for an explanation, bcz I thought it like any other ancient monument in Morocco, no reservation required. But instead of answering the simple question he started mocking me in front of everyone else, by repeating my question back to me, why? Because I want to, he said. I just couldn't believe his reaction, it felt so offensive and humiliating. I just stood there bewildered when one of my friends ( who is a male ) told him : she asked you a simple question he replied ,all while ignoring me : These foreign tourists booked the place in advance, She ( in reference to me) doesn't have the right to question me about my own place. I'm still confused, was it because I'm a moroccan tourist ? A woman? Or worse, of a different skin color ? If I spoke a different tongue than his, would I have gotten a response without all the mockery and public shaming! Fez is a beautiful city, something I had to make an effort to be able to see after that terrible encounter. Be wise when choosing where to put your money,...

Nice building but strange experience with the person there

The door was a little bit open and we can see that they where preparing the room for an event. A man comes out and offer to visit the place for a donation for a women association.

Until hier, was everything ok and we go in.

Strange was to mention a donation about 100 - 500 Dh which is no much for European but to compare, a tajine in the surroundings cost 80 Dh. 2nd. Point was that we should wait for a moment on the stairs wile he was checking if somebody is at the roof. 3rd. He was willing to get the money there before going downstairs where other workers was. We did not want to get in trouble and we give some money but not so much like requested as far as we feel the donation story was just a big lie to get some extra money from the tourists

As a turist I have no problem to pay more than locals or to give some extra tips but I don't like to be ripped or lied Bad way to...

Maybe a nice historic place with traditional decoration, but very bad taste for furnitures and interior design. Details can be found that the restaurant is not well managed. Attracted by the balcony from street, the boss or manager charged 100dm for a cup of normal mint tea and a bottle of coke before allowing to have a visit, but there was nothing like a rooftop bar there, and served on three ugly and bad taste chairs(two for sitting, one as a table)on the empty balcony with one staff washing carpet.
