I booked the rooftop terrace restaurant for lunch on our belated honeymoon. I was really excited for a treat as I’ve never visited a Nobu, and this one was newly opened in 2023.
I’d already suffered the disappointment that the rooftop menu doesn’t include sushi / Japanese dishes when reviewing the menu at home. But sadly, we didn’t have time in our plans to visit for an evening meal.
On arrival, the hotel is breathtaking. Super unique exterior and glowing interior with a beautiful tree feature in the foyer.
We were instructed to go to level T, for terrace in the lift. As we exited - there were no staff visible, we lingered awkwardly for five minutes awaiting staff to point us to our pre booked table.
When we got to the table we were provided with a menu very quickly. I ordered and we received glasses for our drinks and water. Ice in soda glass, no ice in water glass which I would expect in this level of restaurant (also in this heat). Water was not chilled in bottle on arrival.
Excitedly we chose a few starters to share, as the waiter came over and each starter we ordered he advised was not available today. A bit down about this we asked for more time, and settled on just mains.
It was a really hot day, so I was looking forward to visiting a nice restaurant where I anticipated they would have the water misty things that spray diners lightly to cool down. They did, but only for the inner circle of couches - not on the outer dining tables which was unfortunate.
After ordering, small bread rolls and a little dish of something were delivered to the table with no advice of the contents. We weren’t given side plates. It turned out to be a crab pate (I think!?) - it’d be good to announce something like this.. and provide the side plates.
My husband ordered a 300dirham black Angus burger which was brought alongside an additional serving of fries and calamari which we did not order. The waitress re sorted the top bun with her bare hand as she put the plate down - which was a big no from me. And when we advised we didn’t order the other sides the staff annoyedly removed them from the table.
My husband took a bite into his burger and it was cold. As though it had been sitting for some time. We never send food back, it’s a dampener on experience for diner and restaurant in general. We politely advised staff it was cold and they annoyedly removed it. No apology. No advice as to when it would be returned. 5-10 minutes later the plate returned. Burger warmed, again staff remained unapologetic and a little rude and standoffish. I had almost finished my dish by this point.
We sat with empty glasses and plates for going on 20 minutes with no clear up or offer of dessert menu or fresh drinks.
Overall - the setting is beautiful, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to visit the rooftop restaurant. It doesn’t live up to the hype and left me with a negative thought of the brand which I previously...
Read moreHad a booking at the rooftop restaurant for our wedding anniversary. While this was commented on warmly while walking us to a table, 15mins after we arrived, everything went downhill after that. We asked to move to a more suitable table for eating dinner at. We chose to sit at the pool initially, on a sofa with a small low table, which would be better for drinks. This move took 10mins. We were then sat inside the restaurant, a shame as the view is spectacular, and left with no menus for a further 20mins before we could catch someone with some authority to simply hand us a menu. We had been sat in the main thoroughfare for the waiters returning plates and had a view into the kitchen. Good for people watching, but different from the amazing sights by the pool. We witnessed food and drinks being taken back, exchanged and re plated. This should have been an indication of the poor service happening that night. Finally, we were handed menus and apologised to, 45mins after our booking has commenced. Another 20mins go by before we finally get the floor manager involved, who was again apologetic and he ended up taking our order. Thankfully the water arrived quickly, which we chewed to stave off the hunger since it had now been over an hour since our booking had commenced. Our cocktails arrived shortly after that. They were fine, but lacked any sort of flair or imagination. They were in basic glassware, there is no catering for the Instagram era here dispite all the photo opportunities with Nobu signage.
Now for the food. Bread and butter was delivered. Again without ceremony and in store bought packaging. His starter arrived, which we were encouraged to share by another lovely floor manager. Mine, well dear reader, you'll have to wait to find out just as I did. Plates were removed and I was told my starter would be arriving soon. He shared, but not too much so I was still chewing my water 95mins after our booking commenced. Low, here comes some plates! The mains....no starter for me. I looked up to catch the floor manager beratting the poor waiter for serving me my main. This felt personal so I inhaled those 6 big, beautiful prawns with haste. Luckily the water, bread and cocktail has filled the hole, so by the time my starter was plonked in front of me, I was full. I took 3 bites and tapped out, 1 hour and 45mins after our booking commenced. Don't worry, so as not to cause offence I hide the remains under the mountain of rocket that accompanied it. I shouldn't have bothered, no one noticed.
And so onto dessert, 2 hours after our booking commenced. Yea, don't worry we didn't order anything. We asked for the bill, aired our grievances and were offered a table by the pool. We declined, paid full price for everything and left disappointed. Happy...
