A new experience.
Went to 4850 with 0 expectations since a friend invited me to try the vegetarian tasting menu Chef Pedro has created with a guest Chef from Rijks.
My initial feeling when walking into 4850 was a pleasure. The place is scarcely but tastefully decorated and it does give you a feeling of dining at a friend's place, which I quite enjoy. Homely and inviting, but perhaps a tad bit too basic. The small open kitchen is the main focus though, and is clearly seen from any table in the house.
The staff were very friendly from the get go, and showed knowledge and enthusiasm for the food and wines served.
The menu was exciting right from the start, with delicious grilled peas, grilled tomato and white asparagus. The following dishes became slightly less interesting, like the celeriac dish featuring bold but questionable flavour choices.
The whole casual vibe of this place is felt especially when you see the chefs cook and then bring you the food directly to the table, adding to the feeling of being at a friend's house.
The desserts were again very interesting and exciting, I quite enjoyed the barley dish with cardamom and Indian cinnamon, but believe the cardamom taste to be too overwhelming in such a light dessert.
Although I didn't choose it, I recommend trying the wine pairings from the restaurant, as I believe it will heighten the whole level of the menu.
It was, overall, a rather good experience and a nice effort from the...

We did a spontaneous walk in due to late arrival at Schiphol and got a nice table without problems. The atmosphere was relaxed, with nice staff serving us and an international crowd. As the huge floor to ceiling wine vault clearly indicates this place is serious about wine and so are we.
The wine list is pretty much epic, with a huge selection of grower champagne and fine Domaines from Burgundy. We started with a bottle of rose champagne that matched just perfectly with the first snacks arriving at our table. For mains we switched to an entry level PYCM, which was again a pleasure. Mark ups were very friendly as far as I checked. Also, the list is online on their website which is always great for some research in advance.
The food was really good, especially the main dish with poached cod in eel bone veloute. I would not have minded being served such a dish in a one Michelin star restaurant.
Given the well curated (and very fair priced) wine list and the fine food this is a place I can recommend without hesitations and I am sure I will come again...
Read moreThe worst restaurant in my life. I had asked on bottle of wine at the restaurant ‘4850´ and i have seen that they were mixing another wine with the half-empty bottle. I asked about why that was happened, the server said that “what is the problem with ?” i explained that i order a new bottle not mixed with some other wine, she brought me same wine but another vintage, i asked her about the price and it was same price even it has younger vintage. As a person who are in restaurant business, i don’t think that it could happen, this service was not professional at all and i had zero apologies about this for whole dinner. I have tried to talk about this unfortunate situation with the restaurant but the answer was that “ they didn’t do something wrong” I expected a-lot of this restaurant. This restaurant has amazing natural wine list. As a someone who loves natural wine, It is shame that they have no-one who can treat the wine in proper way. At the end, i had zero excuses about what happened and i payed everything i had. I was trying to enjoy my vacation at Amsterdam and this occasion ruined it. It is just disappointing point for the people who enjoys natural wine...
