This place was my go-to when I studied abroad in the 2000’s and lived in de Pijp and it has stayed just as amazing. My first visit here was in 2009 and my last in 2019. In that decade, as an American (US, sorry) foreigner this place became one of my steady hangs whenever I was in town. As an older person, the atmosphere is great for people watching. As a younger person, this is where the super hot rowing teams would sometimes have dinner and I’ll never forget a team of rowers putting me on the back of my bike and cycling my friends and I over to an after party to hang out. It was magic. The food is always amazing without being too expensive, the staff are much more attentive than is typical of a lot of restaurants in Damsco.
Stay away from the restaurants on the high streets if you’re a foreigner who doesn’t want to eat around a bunch of other foreigners (I mean not for every meal, some of the cafes are great for a quick lunch) and head over to a place like this. It’s also on the route of the Albert Cuyp market which is one of the top three best markets in my experience in Damsco.
Do the waitstaff who all speak like 5 languages a hard solid and order off the Dutch menu instead of the English one to earn brownie points. ✌️♥️ I love this place. It lives in my heart forever. So glad it’s...
Read moreI came to this restaurant on purpose to try Moroccan food for the first time in my life while strolling in Amsterdam. When I came in, I tried to speak with the waiter and chef more or less 10 times, I asked him what recipes in the menu (it was all in Dutch and I can neither understand nor speak it) were Moroccan and the meaning of the words: sometimes he didn't want to answer at all, sometimes he was probably pretending not to hear me, sometimes he tried to reply briefly but basically he didn't want to cooperate. I had to ask to another customer who knew Dutch some help. I think that some of the items in the menu are not Moroccan at all; moreover, a considerable number of the items are just simple and plain food. The atmosphere in not the greatest in the world and some tables were even dirty (nobody came there to clean them). In the end, I had to go to have lunch in another place, a better one, such a great disappointment. One star because Google Maps doesn't let me...
Read moreAt first sight it could look inhospitable for couples and or girls since it's merely full of men (at least at the only time we went in) but we were welcomed by costumers who left their seats seing us looking for room without being in the middle of everyone. We felt very comfy, everyone's mind is own business, respectfull and quiet place, even when full.
Concerning the food it was definitely the best and cheapest place we found in Amsterdam, amazing pastas. From this time we didn't eat somewhere else marhaba.
Yet we prefered marhaba west since it's bit more welcoming for couples and family (but maybe this one too regarding which time of the day you go to) and for it's location regarding our trip.
Anyway they're 3 marhaba restaurant in the city, they have basically the same menu (but not exactly) and both have the same quality at least regarding pastas (they're excellent, may be best of my life). Pizza and burgers are very...
