Bistro Vincent — Restaurant in Amsterdam

As a Korean who had been excited to visit the Van Gogh Museum, I was honestly disappointed because of Bistro Vincent. The restaurant says its cuisine is inspired by Japan — the only Asian country mentioned in its introduction — yet it serves kimchi on the menu.

For Koreans, kimchi is a core part of our cultural identity, and seeing it presented as part of “Japan-inspired” cuisine feels culturally insensitive. Given the historical background, this kind of misrepresentation is painful and misleading.

Very glad to have a food option inside the museum, but the prices were rather high for what you get, though the taste of the dishes were good. The Peasant Platter needs more bread or something else to dip in the many sauces, and paying 6 € for a carafe of tap water feels very expensive.

Tijdens mijn bezoek aan het Van Gogh Museum heb ik geluncht bij Bistro Vincent en het was een onverwachte verrassing. Het menu combineert Franse klassiekers met een lichte Japanse twist en lokale Nederlandse ingrediënten, een creatieve mix die perfect past bij het museum.

Ik koos voor de dagsoep en een salade met gerookte zalm; alles was vers en mooi gepresenteerd. Het personeel was vriendelijk en attent, ondanks de drukte. Ook fijn: je kunt hier rustig zitten met een glas wijn of koffie zonder het gevoel te hebben dat je moet opschieten.
