2 British tourists went to this place on a Friday night. Just happen to be around the area looking for something decent and not too over the top expensive. Picked the spot because of the overall review and judging by the amount Spanish names on Google review, it was thought to be a safe bet.

Menu is deceptivly simple: soup, starters, platters (mains with sides and all the bits and bobs)portions. Had 2 platters for about 20 euros each. The platters had a little bit of no thrill look to them but they are more than worth it.

Flank steak platter is a chunky piece of slow cooked flank in a tomato pepper kind of sauce. Tender and not dry like a lot of slow cooked meat I had before.

The other one is a ring of crispy pork belly and mince accompanied by cornbread and a sausage. The mince is a real suprise: a clever touch of chilli brings out the flavour of the moist and delicious meat. Pork belly was deep fried, salted well and the fatty part goes down real well.

Amazing food...

Terrible service. Food was actually pretty nice and the fact that all the waiters spoke Spanish gave the place a lot of credibility but the way they treated my partner and I when we went for dinner was inexcusable.

I understand they were very busy, but that’s not our fault; and if they’re too busy to be able to serve us both of our dishes within the same hour and not take over 40 minutes just to bring out one dish from the two we ordered, they should at least compensate us in some manner or simply not let us in to begin with! They didn’t even apologize until the very end!

Furthermore, what’s the point of having signs and menus in English if none of the waiters can be bothered speaking it to my partner who doesn’t speak Spanish? The way they completely ignored him was very rude, not that they were much nicer in Spanish anyway.

Just terrible service. For the price they’re demanding they should seriously train their...

The food here is fine (although a bit pricy, even for Amsterdam standards) but don't go here if you are worried about Coronavirus. When I visited this restaurant on Saturday evening, there was less than 1 meter distance between the tables, no air circulation, no open windows or doors. When I informed a staff member that I was worried about the apparant lack of precautions, he replied to me: "Oh well, when I go to Albert Heijn, I may get infected too. Can't do anything about it." When I insisted and said they could at least get some more fresh air in, he said: "Air circulation may also cause the virus to spread faster. And anyway, this is why we ask you to write down your name and e-mail address when you come in!" This was a very unprofessional and irresponsible comment and I refuse to go back to a restaurant that doesn't seem to take the Coronavirus and its visitors'...

Visited el tropico last week with my friends. We have been eager to visit it and finally try some latin food. It did not disappoint. We especially liked our starters. We got the cassave fries, empanadas, plantain and shrimp ceviche. The salsa was really the star of the show. For our main dish we chose the chimichurri chicken. The meat is well seasoned and the salad tasted fresh. Im not really a fan of the potatoes but overall a nice meal. The service was good. I got a wrong drink but they changed it without problem. Would definitely come back🎀

The place looks very nice and we enjoyed the service (sara especially treated us very nicely and was attentive the whole time ) only thing we didnt like was the mini arepas that we had better in other places and in this place they were really dry and with least guacamole that we asked for another guacamole extra to put inside them :)) the empanadas also could be more full according to the price which is 12 for 3 . Hopefully it would be better the quality of food next time ;)
