I absolutely love Gangnam as I have eaten here probably 30+ times, however recently there has been some major concerns. First, the new fries are extremely disappointing compared to their old skinny fries. We now avoid ordering them altogether because they are never crispy and they give you way less now for a double order than they used to. For 7,50 they either need to give you way more fries or reduce the price to 4,50 because it's quite frankly a ripoff for price, especially in Amsterdam.
Secondly, the chicken quality used to be out-of-this-world amazing, but recently the chicken pieces they've given us are massive, sometimes hard to chew, and not as crispy as they once were. The massive pieces do not seem natural and are very off putting.
Thirdly, their flavor profiles seem wayyy off from what they used to. The iconic Korean Spicy flavor has been delivered dull and with soy, the honey lemon is less sweet, and soy garlic has become bland. I want to believe that they hand make these sauces everyday and I have recently been unlucky with whoever has been making them. However, this has been the case the last 3 times we ordered so I’m afraid they changed their sauces permanently.
Lastly, our orders have now been messed up 2 times in a row with wrong sauces, and giving us a single size fry box when paid 7,50 for a double (which for it's size is wayyy too expensive now anyways).
I am a huge Gangnam Chicken stan so I want to see this restaurant kill it, but recently it seems that they have been cutting costs (switching suppliers) and/or lacking the attention to detail that they once had. It used to be my go-to restaurant where I'd order at least once a week, however, with these recent concerns I haven't had the desire to return as I once had.
Pleaseee go back to your old ways, Gangnam...
Read moreI'm very disappointed to be writing this review as I had very high expectations to try some Korean Fried chicken for the first time. We ordered through uber eats and our order got cancelled after 40 mins of waiting. We reached out to the customer service at Gangnam Chicken East and a man helped us figure out what happend. We reordered again and got the following products: Fried chicken wings: soy & garlic coating, fried chicken wings: spicy coating and a portion of the sweet potato fries.
The food looked very tasty but it didnt live up to it. The fries were very cold and stale which made it not edible. I thought the soy and garlic chicken would be somewhat savoury but ended up being very sweet. The spicy wings were also very sweet and not spicy at all. The sweetness is very overpowering and leaves a weird aftertaste in your mouth. Wouldnt be able to imagine what the honey coating would taste like.
I'm very bummed out about writing this review as I was very excited trying this restaurant I've been hearing so much about. Customer service was great though. Overall 2/5, doubt that I...
Read moreAs a Korean in my 50s, who was born and raised in Seoul and moved to Amsterdam two months ago, I've been having a hard time adjusting to the food here and was starting to miss Korean food. So, I was delighted to hear there was a shop that makes and sells Korean fried chicken. I happily went and got some takeout. I ordered two small-sized items from the menu, and it cost me 28 euros. Firstly, I was shocked at how expensive it was for the portion size—it's about three times the price in Korea. The reason Korean chicken is so delicious is, above all, because it's made to order with fresh chicken fried in fresh oil. However, the chicken I received here was so lacking in freshness that it seemed to have been fried a long time ago and just reheated. It was absolutely not what you could call Korean-style chicken. It was also far too salty. As a Korean, I can say in one word that this is absolutely not Korean-style chicken. It was the kind of chicken that makes me offended that they are even using the name...
