This was our first meeting point place in Amsterdam since I got here with my wife for work and pleasure. Is nothing fancy but the general space is cute and well organized. It’s owner; Jimmy, when we met him he was very friendly nowadays is just like a big brother ;) we never looked at the menu after the first time, we just ask him to make a nice platter combination with meat, kip, vegetables and fish... this is for us the strong point of this restaurant, the food is simply delicious and very tasty, the experience of eating all with our hands from the same big dish was always the fun part (an special connection with the food and people is triggered). The place is always busy and he tables are near to each other so once in a while you get to meet your neighbors and sometimes this ends up with more drinks and sharing experiences with folks.. I do love the Mongozo beers; fav flavors, banana and coconut (this tropical beer is def. not for everyone). It’s a family business so one day you might be attended by his son or daughter who are also nice and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant for an special, different eating out experience... they do have some competition in that area of town but as I said before; sometimes is the actual service and people who make the real difference... keep up the awesome work, quality and friendliness guys..! Big hug...
Read moreThis place was great. As we walked up the road there are a few other Ethiopian restaurants and this place was buzzing with loads of people and tables out in the street. We were lucky and found seats inside and there was a great atmosphere. Lots of talking and laughing. On the menu were as many vegetarian options as there were meat or fish. Really a load to choose from. My friend and I actually had a platter for 1 and it was enough for us both for a light dinner. But other people were clearing the massive trays of food. It was spicy but not overly so you couldn't taste the difference between each dish. Oh - our order was delayed but we kind of didn't notice because there was so much going on in the place. And when they realised they were so nice and apologetic. Would...
Read moreFirst time trying Ethiopian/Eritrean cuisine in Amsterdam and it was great! Went there with my brother and we shared the Beg Alecha which was a a lamb dish but in my opinion too chewy. We also ordered the Kitfo which was an African beef tartar and was so good that we ordered another one (highly recommend), and the Bebeayenatu which was a selection of 3 other meat dishes (nice but the chicken was the best). We tried their Hashema beer which was super good and Mango Mongozo (also beer) which was a phenomenal. The vibe of the restaurant was fun and cool, however, a little small and tight with seating. Extremely well priced and good service, we paid €23 a head. Overall, recommend and would...
