Lalibela is the first establish Ethiopian restaurant in Amsterdam, run by the same man who started it. It is a family business and it was named after the ancient city Lalibela which is famous for its churches carved from the living rock. I have experienced food of many Ethiopian/African restaurants in Amsterdam, but non of them comes close to Lalibela. Cozy and always smelling nice in there. I love the social food sharing on the big pancake - enjera. They have lovely Ethiopian beer. We went for the beef dishes and while you are expecting to get your own chosen plate of food, the chosen meals have been placed altogether on a big round plate. The base is a huge pancake and the meals have been placed on top in smaller portions. Now for the surprise - to eat your meal, you need to use your fingers. It is truly an experience, but it can only be that if you, as a customer, are willing to learn something new and fit in with the culture.
